Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Crown Tundra DLC is Under a Lot of Pressure

The Crown Tundra DLC expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield is said to come worldwide this November. With it, there are a lot of things that players and fans both and expect from it once its released.

There are many things that are currently known to appear in this DLC thanks to official announcements. This includes the new Galar forms of the Legendary bird trio and the other new Legendary Pokemon that will be appearing. Additionally, there are over 100 Pokemon that were previously absent from Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield that will be returning with this expansion.

While these confirmed details are promising, there were still people highly disappointed with the most recent DLC for the current duo of Pokemon games, Isle of Armor. Many had problems with the low difficulty, slow follower Pokemon, glitches, and the short length overall. This means that many also worry that the Crown Tundra will also drop the ball with things that need to be improved upon.

As mentioned before, many players weren’t fond of the short length of Isle of Armor. This wasn’t helped by there not being too much to do in the endgame other than participating in raids and hunting for items that haven’t been picked up yet. Because of this, players are waiting for a better endgame with more activities if the Crown Tundra is around the same length as Isle of Armor.

There is a lot of potential for new and interesting side quests to open up after the Crown Tundra is complete. Many of these quests have the potential to be connected to the already announced news involving the Legendary Pokemon that will be part of this DLC.

Other possibilities for an endgame activity could involve special battle challenges in a similar to the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon Platinum. However, these hopes will likely never be fulfilled considering the Pokemon games’ track records with the Battle Frontier and its removal in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The Galarian Star Tournament is confirmed for being available after the Crown Tundra’s completion, but player opinions on it will be unknown until its release.

If a longer endgame is off the table, there could still be potential for players to enjoy more of a long main story involved in the Crown Tundra DLC. Once again considering the number of Legendaries involved with the DLC’s announcement, they could all play some kind of big role within this upcoming story.

According to the website HowLongToBeat, the main story of Isle of Armor takes approximately five hours to beat. For a DLC that costs $29.99 USD, this has been a great source of disappointment for fans. Because of this, many of those still loyal to the series will want and expect the Crown Tundra to be packed with more story and content that lasts far longer than five hours.

The current length of Crown Tundra is unknown and likely won’t be known until the DLC is available for purchase. However, those who expect more content have the potential to be disappointed if the Crown Tundra doesn’t meet their expectations.

One of the biggest rumors currently flying around the Sword and Shield community is the future implementation of the Kalos region as a third DLC expansion. This is due to the Galar region being based on the real world’s United Kingdom and Kalos being based on the real world’s France.

It is not currently announced if there will or will not be any more Sword and Shield DLC after the release of the Crown Tundra. However, despite the reception of the Isle of Armor, Pokemon fans still want more.

Other than the ability to explore an entire region via DLC content, many fans want to see the return of Mega Evolution, which was introduced in the Kalos region in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Mega Evolution has already been creeping back into the series as of late, with it being newly implemented into Pokemon GO, and playing a role in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

While many have their beliefs on the future of Pokemon Sword and Shield, nothing is currently confirmed. It is completely possible that Pokemon fans may never see the Kalos region or Mega Evolution within the main games ever again.

There are currently six Legendary Pokemon slated to make their debut in the Crown Tundra. They are:

  • Calyrex
  • Regieleki
  • Regidrago
  • Galarian Articuno
  • Galarian Zapdos
  • Galarian Moltres

Additionally, there are a few Legendary Pokemon from previous games slated to be able to return in the Crown Tundra DLC. They are:

  • Kantonian Articuno
  • Kantonian Zapdos
  • Kantonian Moltres
  • Raikou
  • Entei
  • Suicune
  • Lugia
  • Ho-Oh
  • Regirock
  • Regice
  • Registeel
  • Latias
  • Latios
  • Kyogre
  • Groudon
  • Rayquaza
  • Uxie
  • Mesprit
  • Azelf
  • Dialga
  • Palkia
  • Heatran
  • Giratina
  • Cresselia
  • Tornadus
  • Thundurus
  • Landorus
  • Xerneas
  • Yveltal
  • Zygarde
  • Tapu Koko
  • Tapu Lele
  • Tapu Bulu
  • Tapu Fini

With new Legendary Pokemon alongside many returning Legendries, it could be very possible that there could be even more Galarian forms of Legendary Pokemon to expect. It is however very unlikely that all of these returning Pokemon will be available for capture in-game. Most of them will likely just be available for transfer when the DLC comes out.

Out of all of these returning Pokemon, the one that’s most curiously missing from the list is Regigigas. Considering that there are more Regi Pokemon coming in the DLC, it is odd that the creator of the Regis will be missing. One reason for this could be that Regigigas will be getting a Galarian form that will be a hidden secret in the DLC requiring players to solve a difficult puzzle to find it. However, it could be just missing for other reasons as well.

The Crown Tundra DLC is slated to release on November 30th, 2020. There is a lot that players are expecting from it after their experiences with the core game and the last DLC expansion. The exact quality of this DLC will only be known after its release.
