Rainbow Six Siege is still going strong since it first released nearly five years ago in December of 2015. Even with a large community and a constant player base, small Easter eggs are still being discovered by the community. One Rainbow Six Siege player posted something that seems to have been in the game for quite some time, but the community is delighting in it.
There are over 50 playable operators in Rainbow Six Siege, and there are more on the way. The operators have different abilities, gear, and even health and movement speed. But each operator isn’t just there for gameplay strategy; they have their own backstories for the purpose of lore building as well, and that’s where the most recent Easter egg was found.
Rainbow Six Siege has a family affair of operators. The Bosak family in Siege are three different operators. Jan Bosak is the Father and a former Polish Special Forces unit GROM, and Zofia Bosak and Elzbieta Bosak are rival sisters. Because the sisters are bitter rivals, Ubisoft added a little bonus in Rainbow Six Siege. Whenever any of the two sisters kill each other, the player receives some bonus points marked as “Sister Rivalry.”
This fun little extra operator based detail by the developer is only one of many. One of the other gameplay changes has to do with the same rival sisters, as the concussion grenades are half as effective against each other because the two are used to it. There is an ability called Nanoboost Surge that allows players to breathe faster, and therefore they will take double damage if inside of smoke. Also, Doki’s logic bomb at one point did not work on Echo, because Echo doesn’t have a phone (but this was changed by Ubisoft, as the developer works on balancing for Siege).
Worldbuilding and lore in video games help make the game feel more immersive, and it is impressive that a multiplayer focused game like Rainbow Six Siege does this so well. A few games, like Apex Legends or Overwatch, work hard at creating stories outside of the game. But the special hidden gems in Rainbow Six Siege is an example of bringing that worldbuilding directly into the game, and it is something the community seems to enjoy, according to the comments of the Reddit post if nothing else.
Rainbow Six Siege has been extremely successful for Ubisoft, as it is one of it’s highest selling games of this last generation. The minute-to-minute gameplay is build on a rock-solid DNA. The lore and worldbuilding through hidden secrets and deep cuts in gameplay only add to that polish.
Rainbow Six Siege is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X later in 2020.
