Zack Snyder and his crew are gearing up to knock out some additional reshoots for Justice League in October. Set to add even more content to his hotly anticipated extended cut of the film, the week-long shooting session is set to bring back Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg to record new content.
In an interesting twist, the new footage will be part of an effort that will change the intimidatingly long film into a more digestible four-part series, cutting down what was originally going to be a roughly 3 and a half hour feature. This addresses one of the most common worries about the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League as it is officially known.
This reshoot comes in the wake of Fisher’s recent allegations against director Joss Whedon, who took over production of Justice League when Snyder was forced to leave due to a family tragedy. Fisher had alleged that Whedon commanded a toxic environment behind the scenes of the film, and that others in charge had enabled him. His return to the character of Cyborg is likely a relief to many fans who were uncertain what his accusations meant for his future in the role.
Other recent developments on Snyder’s extended cut include the confirmation that Junkie XL, who was originally set to compose the soundtrack for Justice League, would be returning to finish the score he’d already started before being ejected from the project by Whedon in favor of veteran composer Danny Elfman. Snyder himself also confirmed that his version of the film would remain in its own continuity, outside the established canon of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) as it is currently. So the characters featured in it will technically be different versions of the same characters in the other DC films.
That last bit of info works well with the upcoming The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, which will not only supposedly “reboot” the entire DCEU, but will also feature alternate versions of various characters including Batman himself, who will appear in different iterations. Ben Affleck is set to return as the caped crusader and even the legendary Michael Keaton will reprise his famous role for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns.
The anticipation surrounding the Snyder Cut has drawn in even those who weren’t particularly interested in it, especially due to the sheer amount of changes reportedly being implemented. If nothing else, it should prove to be a fascinating glimpse into an alternate world of what might have been.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to release exclusively on HBO Max in 2021.
