The Boys has been a great success for Amazon, giving them a critically acclaimed, dark and gritty superhero show that has been very well received by fans old and new. So much so in fact, that Amazon appears to be doubling down on the IP in as many ways possible. According to Variety, Amazon is currently fast-tracking a new spin-off series set in the universe, based around an American college exclusively for superpowered kids.
There’s already a good amount of info regarding the spinoff in the wild. Sources suggest that the show will be set in America’s only college for superpowered individuals, run by Vought International. It has been described as an R-rated series set to explore the difficult, hormonal, competitive lives of superpowered college students fighting to score the best contracts in the best cities. A college show dialed up to 11, all set in the irreverent, gritty universe of The Boys.
Craig Rosenberg is set to write the pilot and be the showrunner for the spin-off, continuing a deal with Sony Pictures. Showrunner for The Boys Eric Kripke is also set to be an executive producer on the spin off show, along with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver. The premise seems to have a lot of potential, and being a completely original story may allow for some interesting world building. So long as The Boys is a hot property, it seems audiences will have no shortage of darker, edgier superhero stories to contrast the more traditional big budget films that have dominated the theater landscape.
The Boys is available on Amazon streaming.
