Destiny 2 Theory Thinks Beyond Light is Hiding a Third Enemy Race

Earlier this year, long before Bungie would officially reveal the details of the Beyond Light expansion, many rumors and theories began to emerge about the Darkness and what it could mean for the latest Destiny 2 expansion. While some details have been verified, such as Europa becoming a destination as well as Darkness fueled subclasses, others have seemingly been deconfirmed. Players were convinced a new race of enemies would join the game known as The Veil, though Bungie has repeatedly shown off a new version of Fallen led by the Fallen Kell, Eramis. Fans don’t seem to be giving up hope for a new enemy race, however, as a new theory has sprung up online.

The Darkness-based group known by the community as The Veil is a rumor that Destiny 2 fans seem unable to let go of. The latest theory comes from the Destiny 2 subReddit where MineralMan105 presents their case based on current facts with the game as well as another theory from YouTuber evanf1997. The video attempts to prove why Bungie could still be adding a third enemy race to Europa using in-game evidence such as the humanoid looking statues inside the Darkness ship, lore, teasers, and general theories.

Using evan’s video as a guide, MineralMan105 backs up their claims with a bit of data. Longtime players will likely be aware already that most destinations in the game feature three enemy races, a trend that continued through the major expansions of Forsaken and Shadowkeep. So far, all marketing and promotional materials for Beyond Light have only shown two enemy races on Europa, the Fallen and Vex.

For those who want a bit more, MineralMan105 goes on to provide a super tinfoil hat theory that in Destiny‘s seventh year, adding a new race would give the franchise its seventh enemy faction. With how popular a number seven is with Bungie, the theory certainly makes sense on paper, even if it remains a huge stretch.

However, it seems as though not everyone is as sold on the idea of a mysterious and hidden third enemy type. For one, Bungie would certainly use the new enemies as marketing material to drive player excitement levels in a way that the studio has done with the new element type, Stasis. Some have argued that new enemies are being saved for one of the other announced expansions serving as a grand finale of sorts for Lightfall. With how big a deal a new enemy faction would be for the game, many find it unlikely that Bungie would hold something like that back.

While it’s unlikely that Destiny 2 will be getting its seventh enemy faction, one thing it is getting this November is a weather system. With Europa being a harsh, cold, and snowy location, Bungie revealed that through some back end changes, the studio was able to add in a dynamic weather system creating snow storms, strong winds, and obscuring visibility. Even older locations like the EDZ and Nessus have received fresh coats of paint, as the visual artists and FX teams to up the visual quality and lighting.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS5 version should be available November 12 for PS5.
