The 2020 Tokyo Game Show continued today, and as promised, Square Enix participated and talked about Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, one of its upcoming projects. Most of the information revealed touched on things the public already knew, but there was one announcement that stood out.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be getting a playable demo soon. The announcement for the exact date of the demo’s release will happen later, but it does have a mid-October release window. It’s also unclear how long the demo will be, but a pretty good guess would be the span of a single world, as that’s usually how long Kingdom Hearts demos last.
As far as gameplay goes, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be the series first rhythm game, but its controls will apparently work similarly to the franchise’s action-RPGs. During the game show, Kasumi Ashizawa, a member of the e-Sports team G-Star Gaming, showed off Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory and compared its gameplay to any other Kingdom Hearts title, “Jump is jump and attack is attack.”
At the moment, Square Enix has only confirmed the demo for Japan, but it’s considering a potential western release as well. Should a western release happen, Square Enix will announce the news alongside the demo’s release date, or at least, it’ll announce it in the same timeframe. There are less than two months left until Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory launches as a full game, so Square Enix should be talking about the demo’s release fairly soon, especially since the developer aims to put it out by mid-October.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory releases November 13 on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
