Nintendo Bringing Back Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards | Game Rant

The villagers in Animal Crossing are the stars of the series and the newest entry, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, gives players the ability to summon a villager of their choosing with the stipulation that players must use an official amiibo card depicting said villager. However, their low stock left many players to resort to purchasing specific cards second hand and at a much higher price.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides the player with a random set of villagers who come and go throughout the game. As there are nearly 400 villagers, having a favorite villagers move in is a gamble and amiibo cards are the only surefire way to guarantee a specific villager moves in. Because of this, players have been scrambling to find the cards they crave, despite store shelves being completely empty of the product.

In a recent tweet, Nintendo of America has announced a return to shelves for series 1-4 of the Animal Crossing amiibo cards, allowing players to finally be able to purchase the cards without paying a premium price. The cards will be $5.99 per pack, with each pack containing a random set of 6 cards depicting the various villagers, store owners, and other cast of characters the series is known for. Though, it should be mentioned that villagers who made their debut in New Horizons are not available on the cards. These villagers include; Judy, Dom, Audie, Sherb, Reniegh, Megan, Cyd, and the incredibly popular Raymond.

Though no specific date has been announced, fans will be able to purchase the cards sometime in November. Keep an eye out in stores for their restocking as they are sure to go quickly with hungry fans seeking to pick up stock after a long drought of not being able to find any without purchasing second hand. It is currently unknown exactly how much stock Nintendo plans to provide retailers with at the moment, but a history with stock problems and amiibo does not give many players hope.

This announcement is a net positive for fans as coming updates for New Horizons has many players returning or even continuing to play the relaxed island life simulator. One can only hope that fans will be able to find the villagers they want or at least have someone to trade with.

Although their return is welcome, the uncertainty of stock or release date could leave some fans out of the fun if the packs are all bought up due to the hype. It is up to Nintendo to manage expectations and inform its fans.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
