The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha was an overall success with thousands of PlayStation fans tuning in to enjoy a first glimpse into the multiplayer action. Now, on the horizon is the upcoming Black Ops Cold War Beta which will introduce the rest of the Call of Duty audience to the Cold War shooter.
Activision is planning to open up Beta for live player testing on all platforms in October. This does mean that non-PlayStation fans can get involved in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but there are still several restrictions as to what the Beta involves. Limitations on the “how” and “when” factors of the Beta will mean that every player needs to check when their time has come.
The Early Access Open Beta is planned over two separate weekends. The first weekend will open up on October 8th through October 9th as PlayStation 4 Exclusive Early Access. The following 10th through 12th will become the PlayStation 4 Open Beta allowing even non-Early Access members a chance to try the action. The second weekend starts on October 15th which will initially open up to Xbox and PC Early Access fans and PlayStation 4’s Open Beta community. As of October 17th, the Open Beta will be available to players across all platforms.
The Black Ops Cold War Open Beta will take players across several of Treyarch’s “Meticulously Crafted” maps. Players will be able to visit the maps Satellite in the Angolan Desert, Crossroads in Uzbekistan, South Beach Miami, Armada amidst the North Atlantic, and even travel to the heart of Russia in Moscow.
Across these maps can get to try out a variety of game modes including VIP Escort, Combined Arms, and Fireteam. In VIP Escort, a player is randomly selected to become the VIP. This player only gets a pistol, smoke grenade, and UAV leading it up to the rest of the squad to defend them and escort them to the extraction point.
Combined Arms takes a wider focus on combat into play by adding vehicles into the maps. These massive 12v12 battles are tailored to operate around objective-based missions where players must use the added technology to their advantage in each confrontation. As for Black Ops Cold War’s Fireteam, players go in as separate squads all fighting towards similar objectives. Two teams made up of several squads fight to complete an operation in a massive 40 player game mode.
Players will also get a wider range of weapons, attachments, and options in their class building then the Alpha provided. As the Beta plays out, many fans are hoping that Treyarch took notes from the first round and made some minor improvements to the current game’s build.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to launch on November 13th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
