Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin Lets Players Create Their Own Character

The 2020 Tokyo Game Show is in full swing, and Capcom is one of the many developers participating. The developer recently sat down for its first TGS broadcast, and it took the opportunity to discuss several of the titles that it has in store for the future, including its upcoming sequel to Monster Hunter StoriesMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

According to Capcom, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will feature character customization, so players will be able to customize the appearance of the game’s protagonist. Exactly how much players will be able to customize remains a mystery, though, as Capcom didn’t provide many details about the feature outside of its announcement.

While Capcom didn’t discuss the character customization feature in length, it did provide a slide showing off some of the possibilities to come out of it. The image features four character models in total, all with different hairstyles, eye colors, and skin tones — the attributes most players would expect to be able to change with a feature like this.

The fact that the game does have customization isn’t anything too surprising. The first Monster Hunter Stories allowed players to customize the protagonist as well, so it would be somewhat bizarre for its sequel to exclude it. It’ll be interesting to see how Capcom has updated the feature and all the new ways players will — or at least should — be able to go about creating their avatars.

Beyond the customization, Capcom also provided some details about who the new Monster Hunter Stories protagonist is, but it couldn’t say much. The protagonist will be a decadent of Red, the default male protagonist of the first game, and that’s about all Capcom can reveal until the release date for Monster Hunter Stories 2 gets closer.

As far as the panel’s discussion on Monster Hunter Stories 2 gameplay, the player will be able to choose from two new weapon classes. The original Monster Hunter Stories only featured four of the 14 weapons present in the main Monster Hunter series of games: the Hunting Horn, Sword, Hammer, and the Sword and Shield. It’s still a mystery as to what exactly the two new weapons will be.

Capcom will return with a second broadcast for the Tokyo Game Show tomorrow, but it won’t be about Monster Hunter. In other words, the details presented today are everything that TGS had to offer on both Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. The next broadcast will go over Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, though, so there’s certainly reason to tune in.
