Mortal Kombat 11 game director Ed Boon has been posting cryptic tweets, with many assuming that he is building up to the reveal of a new MK11 DLC character. The character still has yet to be revealed, but Boon has been responding to some fans on Twitter to debunk some of their theorized characters.
The latest Mortal Kombat 11 DLC clue includes an image of Kobra, who is one of the least popular characters in Mortal Kombat‘s history. Along with the image of Kobra, Boon included the text “6 degrees. . . .” with no added context. What this means exactly is unclear at the time of this writing, but fans started replying to the Kobra image, guessing that Boon is teasing either Kobra as MK11 DLC or Havik.
In his responses, Boon confirmed that neither Havik nor Kobra are currently planned to as DLC for Mortal Kombat 11. However, Boon didn’t respond to those who were guessing that Rain is going to be an MK11 DLC character, which could be a strong indication that the Rain theory is correct.
For those who haven’t been following along, Ed Boon has posted three clues before this, and some fans think that they point directly to Rain as being the next DLC fighter. The clues have revolved around the singer Prince and his album Purple Rain, which is where the character Rain got his name to begin with. Of course, it’s also possible that Boon is just trolling fans and there are no plans to bring Rain to Mortal Kombat 11 at all.
Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 11 datamining leaks may have revealed some future plans that NetherRealm has for the popular fighting game. For example, voice files leaked that seem to suggest the cast from the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie have recorded dialogue for the game. This has led many to believe that DLC based on the Mortal Kombat movie is coming to MK11, either in the form of new character skins or a voice pack.
Others still have clung on to some of the more outlandish Mortal Kombat 11 leaks, like the one that claims Harley Quinn, Halloween‘s Michael Myers, and the highly-requested Mileena are going to be added. Whether or not there’s any truth to these “leaks” remains to be seen, especially since NetherRealm is hiring for next-gen projects, and one has to imagine that the studio is about ready to move on from Mortal Kombat 11. Time will tell, but Mortal Kombat fans will want to keep an eye on Boon’s Twitter feed in the meantime.
Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
