RTX 3090 Size Comparison Shows How Big GPU is Compared to Xbox Series X

When Nvidia officially unveiled its 30-series line of graphics cards to the public, gamers immediately noticed how large units like the GeForce RTX 3090 are. Although fans used size comparison charts to get an idea of how large the GPU was before release, people are now discovering how it really measures up to next generation consoles.

Leading up to launch, the GeForce RTX 30-series drew in controversy from current Nvidia users who paid for a new graphics card only one year beforehand for a significant spike in performance. However, despite the RTX 3090’s incredibly high price tag, reports claim that it might not be as powerful as advertised. Following its launch, the website Digital Foundry was able to get its hands on a graphics card and settle the speculation.

Before the site completed a full review, it decided to compare the dimensions of the massive Nvidia Founder’s Edition GPU’s size to that of the Xbox Series X. After laying the GPU across the face of the rectangular next generation console, Digital Foundry confirmed that Nvidia’s graphics card is slightly longer than the Series X’s full height. The Twitter comparison subsequently sparked a debate in the comments about the GeForce RTX 3090’s merits against next generation consoles. While some argued that the RTX 3090’s impressive statistics and raw power outweighed the Xbox Series X’s merit, others argued on behalf of the upcoming Microsoft console, stating that it also contained a CPU and a fully operational system in its casing, unlike the GPU, which is a single component that needs a computer to function.

Although one cannot really pit a PC’s GPU against a console in a fair 1:1 comparison, the debate in the Twitter comments does raise a valid point about whether the graphics card’s capabilities truly match its size. Even if one ignores the leaked reports that the RTX 3090 is less powerful than advertised, some people have already noted that the 3090 can be somewhat impractical.

After all, some games do not support the level of high definition that the GPU has to offer. Moreover, reviews surrounding Nvidia’s other notable GPU, the GeForce RTX 3080, are calling some of the company’s claims into question.

Ultimately, gamers will have to wait and see if the magnitude of the GeForce RTX 3090’s technical achievements match its extraordinary size. The gaming sphere might want to wait for official benchmark evaluations, and as time passes, see how future games take advantage of the GPU’s capabilities.
