Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Director Pleased With Fan Reception

Many upcoming games have been showcased during the 2020 Tokyo Game Show this weekend, including the mobile game Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds. Another of these games has been Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and these sneak peeks at the upcoming title have gotten some fans more excited for the game’s release in a couple of months.

The next Zelda game follows the style of the first Hyrule Warriors, but Age of Calamity will be set in the world Breath of the Wild established. This prequel to the popular Legend of Zelda Switch game will offer more background to the events that brought about Calamity Ganon in the way players see in Breath of the Wild.

During the Tokyo Game Show, Age of Calamity Producer Yosuke Hayashi and Director Ryouta Matasushita participated in a stream which showed off Age of Calamity‘s playable characters, mainly focusing on the abilities of Daruk and Impa. Hayashi and Matasushita talked about fans’ responses to the game, and expressed that they are happy to see such a positive response so far. Matasushita specifically said that he is happy that fans think Impa is cute, and have called her such online.

In the first Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity stream at Tokyo Game Show 2020, Impa was revealed to be a playable character, showing off her Sheikah style of fighting. Many fans have commented on Impa’s character model, pointing out that it looks almost identical to Paya, Impa’s granddaughter in Breath of the Wild.

Some players hope that the game will allow Paya and Impa to fight alongside each other in Age of Calamity‘s co-op mode, as the first game brought in playable characters that didn’t necessarily make sense with the game’s main story. However, there is no word from the developers on these hopes.

Though fans only have to wait another two months for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to be released, there are still more questions that they are interested in seeing answered. However, this lack of knowledge hasn’t put many fans off from the game, and has even made some more eager to play Age of Calamity upon its release. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo have clearly put a lot of work into this upcoming title, so fans will have to see whether that work pays off come November.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be available on November 20 for Nintendo Switch.
