Despite devs’ best efforts, some players will always find ways to get around the game’s limitations and reap as many rewards as possible. Some Red Dead Online players have found an interesting way to get access to way more Wild Western-themed treasure maps than the online action-adventure game typically allows.
One of Red Dead Online‘s most interesting challenges are the treasure maps, which work differently in the online multiplayer than they do in the Story mode of Red Dead Redemption 2. In single player, treasure maps are consistent across the game and can be found with online guides and cheats, and are meant to guide the player in exploring RDR2‘s huge open world. Treasure maps in Red Dead Online are more variable, and one way to get them is through completing certain in-game challenges.
Some players have noticed they can get a treasure map in Red Dead Online by completing a Daily Challenge for 28 days in a row. However, no matter how much longer that streak gets, the player doesn’t get a free treasure map, even if they maintain the streak for 28 times 2, 3, and so on. Reddit user Medic_Gibby showed off an impressive 502-day streak, which begs the question of why they were only rewarded with one treasure map for such a long streak.
However, an important comment in Medic_Gibby’s post points to a hack: stop playing on the 29th day so that the streak resets, and then play for another 28 days to get another free Red Dead treasure map. Of course, this isn’t an infinite hack, as it can be completed roughly once a month, but some players might not have caught on to the fact that giving the game a rest for one day is more effective in getting a monthly map than just getting the one and maintaining a longer streak.
However, some players on another Reddit thread started by user rafs92 point out that this may not be worth the money in Red Dead Online, as treasure maps don’t give as much a reward as doing all that day’s challenge. So, missing the 29th day may end up losing more money in the long run, especially as it takes almost a full month for the cycle to reset.
Even if it’s not a huge moneymaker, it is a neat trick to get around the streak limit, and it’s one that Rockstar might not have expected. Red Dead players are often finding unique loopholes and tricks to get extra rewards, and some are worth even more.
Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
