The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 halted many of this year’s expectations from movie releases and gaming expos, all the way to Amazon’s Prime Day. Prime Day, a site-wide sale that usually takes place in July, has yet to happen and whether or not it would continue has been a question on consumers’ minds since Amazon announced Prime Day would not happen this summer.
However, after rumblings of Prime Day’s start date, Amazon has finally announced that Prime Day will indeed happen this year, just a bit off schedule with a premiere of the sale at midnight PT on October 13 and running across a span of 48 hours until 11:59 PM October 14. Two full days of sales should give consumers plenty of time to make use of the various deals with Amazon’s early Prime Day deals already taking place.
Despite the delay, Prime Day will include the hundreds upon thousands of exclusive deals for Prime members for gaming fans, tech gurus, homemakers, and fashionistas. Although, there are no specific details on any of the gaming or electronics deals as of yet, a Nintendo Switch bundle or games deals seems fairly likely as long as Amazon can keep up with the console’s shortages from Nintendo’s great sales records. With Microsoft and Sony both releasing new consoles this year, it is unlikely to see any impactful deals for the Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5.
One thing to note is Prime Day’s delay brings the day of deals increasingly closer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two days also known for their emphasis on electronics deals. This begs the question of which day will have the better deals or if the discounts themselves will bleed into one another. Consumers should keep an eye on any products on their holiday lists to avoid facing anything selling out, like the Xbox Series X is expected to, or having a better deal later on down the road.
Having Prime Day this close to Black Friday and Cyber Monday seems a bit much for an already confusing year. Amazon may be looking to get rid of items it expected to be able to ditch in July, but are now tasked with selling that merchandise much later. Consumers looking for serious discounts on desired products may be better off waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
As stated before, no deals have been made explicit as of yet. It’s possible we’ll see deals on various gaming subscriptions services like Game Pass Ultimate or discounts on current games, but that is only speculation. Fans should be patient these next few months and shop smartly with the many shopping days ahead.
Prime Day will begin at midnight PT on Oct. 13
