NBA 2K21 has rolled out the second update to the game nearly one month after its release. The update addresses various bugs and some gameplay tweaks. While most of the changes in the update are bug fixes, some changes are more substantial like dribbling, shooting, and improvements to MyCareer, MyTeam, and MyLeague.
The NBA 2K21 update also tweaks gameplay based on community feedback. When NBA 2K21 first released, the shooting mechanics caused outrage in the community. The shooting mechanics were so problematic that developers released a hotfix for shooting only one day after the game’s release. Now, shooting mechanics have been tweaked further with an increased shot meter size, increased shot responsiveness following post moves, and a pro-stick shooting exploit fix.
Along with shooting, other aspects of gameplay have also been tweaked. Dribbling has been adjusted with reduced first step acceleration, increased ankle-breakers and defensive reactions, and changes to dribbling moves for the Neighborhood, Rec Center, and Pro-Am.
The ball handling requirement for Pro Dribble Moves has been reduced from 85 to 80, giving players more freedom to perform advanced dribble moves with their created player. The dribble moves for the Neighborhood have also been moved to L3 (left stick click). The reduced first step acceleration will drastically change the effectiveness of the Quick First Step badge and the increased ankle-breakers may deem the Ankle Breaker badge finally usable.
The shooting and dribbling adjustments in the NBA 2K21 update are extremely valuable, especially for players looking to create a new build. The ball handling requirement for Pro Dribble Moves being dropped from 85 to 80 is very helpful because many players were forced to give up other attributes to make sure their player has an 85 ball handling rating. Having Pro Dribble Moves is important because many of the best dribble moves are in that category. The increase to ankle-breaking animations will cause some more exciting gameplay, while the decrease to first step acceleration will balance isolation play a little more.
A number of bugs have been addressed which have caused crashes, cosmetic issues, and menu displays. Along with bug fixes, the update also improves audio quality, MyCareer cutscenes, difficulty adjustments for MyTeam, and improved player likeness for Damian Lillard. It seems the NBA 2K21 update addresses many of the complaints received from the community and fixes many of the bugs that have affected gameplay. The major update will look to drastically improve gameplay and player experience.
