Call of Duty: Warzone Hit With PlayStation Connection Issues

Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare players are currently experiencing issues connecting to the game on the PlayStation 4. Players across the internet are reporting trouble logging into the game, citing numerous connection issues with each attempt, as well as problems with the game crashing. The most prominent is an error stating that a PlayStation Plus account is required to play.

The downtime falls alongside the launch of Modern Warfare Season 6, though it’s unclear if the launch is directly responsible for the network outage, or if some other issue is causing the problem. As of this writing, the issue doesn’t appear to be affecting users on other platforms. The official Call of Duty Warzone Twitter account has not yet addressed the issue, but the Activision Support account claims that it’s currently being investigated.

Interestingly, there appears to be a variety of issues happening at the same time, as players are simultaneously reporting PlayStation Network errors, as well as crashes currently hitting the game en masse. The issues appear to have sprung up recently, as player reports are increasingly starting to flood in. The replies to the game’s main Twitter pages are currently flooded with disgruntled users looking for updates on the issue, though there’s not much in the way of information being shared, other than the investigation notice.

Unfortunately, there’s currently no estimated time for a fix to the issue either, so Modern Warfare and Warzone players will just need to hang tight while the problem is sorted out. Season debuts typically see a nice bump in players wanting to check out new content, which in the case of Modern Warfare Season 6 is mostly the new weapons, so it’s understandable that players aren’t exactly pleased.

Of course, network issues are an increasingly common part of online games as internet connectivity becomes an even bigger deal. It’s unfortunate that it happened on such an occasion, but considering there’s a new update and additional strain on the servers, it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that something went wrong; it’s just a by-product of the live service formula.

Hopefully, the issues are resolved sooner rather than later, but there’s not much players can do in the meantime other than wait for the issues to get sorted out. Luckily, the Season 6 update itself seems to be functioning normally, so players that haven’t installed it yet have some time to get everything set up for when things come back online.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
