Depressing Waluigi Detail Revealed by High-Res Image | Game Rant

Waluigi has been the black sheep of the Super Mario gang for quite some time. Starring mostly in Mario sports and party games, the tall, lanky, and purple Waluigi is the source of many jokes and memes, and has been left out of many Mario titles. And now a new find shows that his story may be even more depressing than initially realized.

A 2018 high-resolution image of Waluigi has resurfaced on places like Twitter and Reddit, showing off Waluigi in extremely detailed glory. A close look at the image shows something rather interesting about his attire, specifically his cap. It appears that his upside-down “L” is not an embroidered patch, but instead a sticker that is slightly pealing. This indicates that Waluigi places his own sticker on a regular purple cap, unlike the Super Mario Brothers and Wario, who have custom made clothing. If this is true it’s just one more odd detail to add to the Waluigi factsheet.

Waluigi debuted in Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64, and he’s mostly been relegated to that style of game ever since. Many fans have requested that Waluigi be added to Smash Bros., but director Sakurai has shut that down a few times. Waluigi is in the game as an assist trophy, a spirit, and a collectible trophy in the older Smash Bros. titles, but that’s as far as he’s gotten so far.

The pink-nosed and crazy mustached Waluigi is a bit of an enigma of a character. It would seem that he is the brother of Wario, who has seen many games of his own including the Wario Land games and the WarioWare series. However, some games have pointed to the two being just cousins, or even only friends/tennis partners. Thus Waluigi has never received the love from Nintendo that Wario has.

Because of his crazy appearance, eccentric nature, Nintendo neglection, and the fact that he isn’t in a Super Smash Bros. game that has a slogan of “Everyone is Here!,” Waluigi has become a fan-favorite underdog in many ways. The fact that he cannot even afford a proper cap may only add to the online lore of the character.

Perhaps Nintendo will allow the “bad Luigi” to star in his own title one day. Maybe he will get to stretch beyond the simple Mario Kart-like games or eventually find his way to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. If that were the case, Waluigi could receive royalties for the sales of the games and finally be able to buy a tailor-made cap.
