Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for half a year now, and the game continues to captivate gamers from all over the world. Of course, much of the game’s success can be attributed to Nintendo’s constant content updates, offering players new experiences with plenty of new things to do, bugs and fish to catch, and DIY items to build.
Now, the fall season is officially underway, and Nintendo announced a couple of days ago that the Halloween season will soon bring spooky vibes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Luckily for players, the latest gall and Halloween update is only a few days away and players can expect big changes in the game such as new color palettes to suit the autumn season, new costumes, anime-themed dresses, and much much more.
On Nintendo’s What’s New feature for September 21st, the company announced that the free autumn update is “just around the corner” and will officially release on September 30, 2020. However, it is worth noting that all the Halloween content won’t immediately be available in the game, given that Nintendo will slowly roll out new features and events all throughout the month of October, up until Halloween.
Just like AC:NH‘s huge summer update, the upcoming fall and Halloween expansion will bring new things to the game that suits the feel of the autumn season. To start, players can now grow their own pumpkins to decorate around their homes and all throughout their entire island. Additionally, players can also use these pumpkins for Halloween-themed DIY recipes, which is why players should grow them immediately as soon as they are able to. Starting this October, pumpkin seeds can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny, and they will also be available all-year-round from Leif.
Apart from the introduction of pumpkins, players should also prepare for several Halloween-themed festivals this October. Prior to the huge celebration on Halloween itself, players are advised to stock up on candy early and find their best Halloween costume in time for the event. Apart from official costumes that will be available at the Able Sisters’ shop, players can also use creator codes to score some amazing costumes such as anime-themed clothes, Disney outfits, and even World of Warcraft garb to go trick-or-treating. On October 31st, villagers will gather around the plaza after 5 PM, which will be adorned with a huge array of Halloween decorations. Players can give candy to their favorite villagers, but they should be on the lookout for neighbors who might prank them during the holiday.
Of course, those who will find themselves pranked on Halloween will also be able to use a new set of emotes to express their feelings of fear. Additionally, the Halloween update will also introduce Jack, who is the latest guest who calls himself the “czar of Halloween.” If players give Jack lollipops and candy, they will receive Halloween-themed rewards. Moreover, the Dreams feature, which was introduced last summer, is also getting an update, and players can now easily revisit islands from a list, making it easier to journey back to their favorite places. Lastly, the NookLink Service, which is available on the Nintendo Switch online mobile app, will receive an update in early October. In this update, players will now be able to use their smartphones to perform Reactions in the game.
As for what’s next in Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the foreseeable future, the company confirmed several days ago what’s in store for the game after the huge Halloween update. In late November, Nintendo will introduce another content expansion, which will bring Thanksgiving and Christmas to the game. At the moment, it is still unknown what exactly awaits players in the forthcoming Thanksgiving/Christmas content expansion, but if it will be as big as the summer and fall updates, then players are in for a treat.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
