2020 has been a rather quiet year in terms of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Other than revealing one DLC fighter back in June of this year, there has been next to no news regarding any future DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. However, what there has been is a lot of presumed leaks, practically all of which have been debunked. Now, the newest supposedly leaked character is from Overwatch.
Ever since Nintendo unveiled Min Min from ARMS as the latest DLC fighter back in June, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting the next DLC fighter. Sadly, there hasn’t been any additional news regarding Smash Bros. since Min Min was initially announced. Thus, as the fanbase typically does during Smash Bros. content droughts, many fans have turned to leaks as a way of finding out what character is slated to appear next. This latest leak points to one of the most recognizable faces in Overwatch.
According to a now deleted post on GameFAQs, Tracer from Overwatch will be the next DLC fighter for Smash Bros. Ultimate. Given how popular Overwatch has become even before its commercial release and how Tracer is arguably the face of the entire franchise, it seems like a good idea to include her in the game. Admittedly, she’s also a much more likely candidate than Bigby Wolf. Though, things did not stop there.
The leaker in question, Slayersfan, had supposedly predicted two Overwatch skins that were released back in 2019. According to Slayersfan, an agreement between Nintendo and Blizzard had been finalized this year, but development presumably took awhile due to the effects of COVID-19. This deal to include Tracer in Smash Bros. was supposedly proposed as a result of the Switch version of Overwatch.
As always, it’s best to take everything these leaks have to say with a grain of salt. If it was not officially announced by Nintendo, then there is absolutely no guarantee that any sort of leak is accurate. There have already been so many false alarms and debunked Smash Bros. leaks to have come from 2020, it’s almost impossible to keep track of them all. Less than a week ago, fans of the series were convinced that Geno from Mario RPG would be the next Smash Bros. fighter, until the leak was ultimately debunked.
Although, for how long Nintendo has kept quiet about new Smash Bros. DLC, an announcement is bound to happen sooner or later. When the second Fighters Pass DLC was announced earlier this year, Nintendo said that all of the fighters would be announced by the end of 2021. Thus, there’s still plenty of time for the company to announce the upcoming fighters.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
