Thousands Sign Star Wars: KOTOR Remake Petition | Game Rant

Just over 4,000 fans have signed a new petition wanting EA to remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with the game’s 20th anniversary only a few years away.

The petition, which was created earlier this summer, encourages EA to remake the fan-favorite RPG with modern graphics, bringing the game to a whole new audience who may have yet to experience the classic BioWare game.

Knights of the Old Republic was originally released in 2003 on PC and Xbox. The game was incredibly well received with many critics and fans applauding the combination of classic RPG tropes that BioWare was known for with rich Star Wars aesthetic, typically seen in action and space combat games prior. Earlier in the year, Knight of the Old Republic was trending on Twitter due to many fans considering it the best Star Wars game released.

Knights of the Old Republic received a sequel in 2004 which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment as BioWare was heavily in development with Mass Effect. Knights of the Old Republic 2 was also well received, with the game featuring a darker story and unique gameplay that Obsidian Entertainment would be known for in its future releases such as Fallout: New Vegas, Alpha Protocol, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Currently Obsidian is hard at work on Avowed, an RPG fantasy title similar to Skyrim.

The KOTOR series would later receive an MMO titled The Old Republic developed by BioWare and released in 2011. While the MMO has been incredibly successful for both EA and BioWare, many fans wish the series would return to its single player roots with an eventual sequel. Currently BioWare is hard at work on the development of Dragon Age 4 and an overhaul of the critically panned 2019 game, Anthem.

Its no secret that Star Wars fans will make their voices heard regarding the beloved franchise. With the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2, EA received a tremendous amount of flack for the inclusion of microtransactions that became a major part of the game. The reception quickly caught the eye of several government bodies across the globe that lobbied for microtransactions to be considered gambling, a discussion that still takes place today. EA quickly changed course removing the feature all together and focusing on many new changes to Battlefront 2, including free DLC for the game going forward.

Meanwhile, Star Wars fans are only days away from the launch of Star Wars: Squadrons, releasing on October 2. The game looks to bring back another celebrated aspect of the Star Wars franchise with its focus on space combat and an emphasis on simulation. Star Wars: Squadrons will also feature ship customization, not seen in a significant capacity since the release of Star Wars: X-Wing versus Tie Fighter in the late 90s.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is available now on PC and Xbox.
