October is right around the corner, and as usual, that means a fresh batch of free games for Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to claim for their collection. Subscribers will be able to claim four free Games with Gold in October, and all of them are fitting for the Halloween season.
From October 1 to 31, Xbox One players can download Slayaway Camp: Butcher’s Cut for free. Slayaway Camp is a puzzle game with a slasher movie twist that earned strong reviews when it originally launched on PC in 2016. The Butcher’s Cut adds even more content, and so fans should have plenty of horror-themed puzzles to complete come October 1.
Then from October 16 to November 15, Xbox gamers will be able to claim the horror game Maid of Sker. A first-person survival-horror game that just released this past July, Maid of Sker earned somewhat mixed reviews, but its spooky atmosphere should still make it a solid pick for anyone looking for a new horror game to play this Halloween.
From October 1 to October 15, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to claim Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, an original Xbox game and generally well-received action adventure title. While not a horror game by any means, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy revolves around the classic “cursed mummy” horror movie monster, and so it still fits the Halloween theme.
And finally, from October 16 to October 31, Xbox Live Gold subscribers can claim the Xbox 360 game Costume Quest. Literally set during Halloween, Costume Quest is a game about trick-or-treating and turn-based battles. Developed by Double Fine, Costume Quest was similarly well-received at the time of its release, and even won some awards in 2010. As one of the few video games actually set during the Halloween holiday, Costume Quest is perhaps the most fitting game coming as part of the Xbox Live Free Games with Gold October 2020 lineup.
While fans wait to get their hands on the free Xbox Games With Gold for October 2020, there’s still some time to claim the free Games with Gold for September 2020. Players can claim The Division for free until September 30, and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is free until October 15. Meanwhile, the original Xbox game Armed and Dangerous is free until September 30 as well, so any Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate subscribers that have yet to claim those free titles should make it a point to do so while they still can.
October 2020 will be the last month before the Xbox Series X and S consoles are available, so it will be interesting to see what the Games with Gold lineup for November 2020 looks like. Fans will find out next month.
