Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Customize Spooky Furniture with Pumpkins

With 2020 moving at lightning speed and Halloween now just around the corner, players can finally start decorating their Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands with spooky style and get ready for Jack’s trick or treating events at the end of the month. But customizing the Halloween-themed DIY furniture will work a bit differently than usual.

In recent years, Halloween has become all the hype. Between watching 80s horror classics, getting dressed up in the most meme-y costumes possible, visiting the local haunted suites, or even just giving out candy to young ones, Halloween has become a favorite time of the year for many. Not to mention that it signifies the beginning of the holiday season, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is no stranger to the excitement. Many fans have noted how New Horizons is lacking where the mobile spinoff Pocket Camp excels—with its wide variety of furniture—but much of that is about to change with the Halloween update.

The newest fall updated in Animal Crossing brings about pumpkin harvesting, and this is very important when it comes to customizing furniture in October. Firstly, however, the player will need to acquire spooky furniture, but luckily, there is a multitude of methods available. Whether it be downloading DIY recipes onto the NookPhone, purchasing them from Tom Nook’s shop, or trade them for candy with Jack at the end of the month, most Spooky Set furniture items can be customized afterward using pumpkins instead of the usual Customization Kits.

Pumpkins in New Horizons come in four different colors: orange, white, yellow, and green. Of course, orange pumpkins are the most common that will randomly sprout from vines, while yellow and white are considered uncommon. And green pumpkins are the rarest, so make sure to frequently replant them for those that want green pumpkin decorations around their islands.

When crafted, most Spooky Set items will be automatically orange but the color can be changed using the other pumpkins. Green pumpkins can change a Spooky Lantern from orange to green, while a six white pumpkins can be used to change a regular black Spooky Arch to white with gray accents. Keep in mind, however, that there are several items only obtainable on Halloween evening by giving candy to either Jack or villagers, such as a Spooky Wand and Spooky Flooring, and these items won’t be customizable.

Keep an eye out for the Thanksgiving and Christmas updates on their way shortly following Halloween because it’s likely that Nintendo will have a lot more activities in store for the rest of the holiday season as well.
