Halloween is just around the corner and Animal Crossing: New Horizons is celebrating the holiday in style. Not only does the newest update introduce the ability for players to grow pumpkins on their island, but a plethora of spooky items have made their way to the cutesy world of New Horizons.
Much like the acorn DIY recipes, spooky furniture is locked behind recipes with which players will need certain crafting items to complete the furniture, as well as a DIY recipe card to unlock the knowledge behind the item itself. Thankfully, unlike the acorn DIY recipes, New Horizons offers a multitude of methods to getting those recipe cards into the villager’s inventory.
A random spooky furniture item will be available daily in Nook’s Cranny’s section for their seasonal items. Though players won’t be gifted the DIY recipe, they’ll be able to add a new item to their inventory every day. The items, like all furniture, can be purchased for a number of Bells. The item will change daily, but the chance of running into the same item twice is certainly there. Players will have to be patient or make use of New Horizons helpful community if they are missing or yearning for a specific item.
Another method of finding spooky items during the Halloween update is by coming across their crafting recipes via the daily recipe found in a bottle on the players beach, by shooting down balloons carrying recipes in their gift boxes, or visiting a villager while they’re crafting furniture. For the latter, simply visit a villager when they’re home (this is signified by smoke emitting from their home or their lights will be on) and talk to the villager that is currently crafting. The crafting villager changes twice daily with a maximum of three available recipes that can be found between 5am-12pm, 12pm-6pm, and 6pm-5am.
Lastly, players can collect spooky furniture DIY recipes during the Halloween event on October 31st. Simply gift the island’s residents a piece of candy during the event for a chance at them giving you a recipe in return. Players can also visit the pumpkin helmed Jack instead for a recipe, but they’ll have to give him a Lollipop first.
It should also be noted that the spooky furniture has special customization options in the form of changing the items color with a specific color of pumpkin.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
