Apex Legends Job Listing Seemingly Confirms Mobile Port and New Features

Many fans of Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends are hotly anticipating the game’s upcoming crossplay update. Not only will these players finally be able to play against their friends on other systems, they’ll also be able to face off against competitors on the Nintendo Switch as well. However, it seems like another group of challengers could be entering the ring soon if a recent job listing is to be believed.

A new job listing on Respawn Entertainment’s website seems to suggest that a mobile version of Apex Legends is currently in the works. While the job listing itself says the company is looking for a senior game designer to work on “unannounced mobile games,” it is under the Apex Legends section of the site, making it pretty obvious that the games in question are likely related to Apex Legends.

This job listing seems to reconfirm what Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson during an EA Fireside Chat back in June. At that time, Wilson had stated that EA intended to do a soft launch of Apex Legends for mobile by the end of the year. However, with it almost being October, job listings for the project still being posted, and Respawn being focused entirely on the full Apex Legends experience and its cross-play update, that 2020 launch estimate is starting to seem unobtainable.

However, this mobile job listing isn’t the only information to be gleaned from Respawn’s career section. It seems that Respawn is currently looking to hire a Technical Designer/Scripter dealing with microtransactions. This person’s responsibilities will include improvement of the Apex Legends store, event structures, battle passes, and more.

This job listing could be seen as relatively good news as fans of Apex Legends have criticized the game in the past for its extensive and seemingly overpriced microtransactions. When the game first started introducing heirlooms, players even calculated that they would need to spend at least $170 to get Bloodhound’s Raven’s Bite. While those microtransactions have never been mandatory to be competitive within the game, players have certainly been left with a bad taste in their mouths over the excessive cost.

These job listings seem to affirm what some players were feeling following a recent leak: Apex Legends has a long life ahead of it. A recent leak by Biast12 seems to indicate that Respawn Entertainment already has plans for the next 7 legends coming to Apex Legends. And while these legends won’t be coming for a while, many players felt reassured that Apex Legends is here to stay.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version currently in development.
