Destiny 2: 10 Questions That Still Need To Be Answered Before Beyond Light Launches In November

Players are eagerly waiting for more news about Beyond Light, the much-anticipated Destiny 2 expansion that would have been out last week barring COVID-related delays. Understandably, players have a ton of questions about what the state of Destiny 2 will be once Beyond Light launches given that it will be the biggest content “shift” in Destiny history with a ton of new content coming to the game and even more leaving with weapon and armor sunsetting, as well as the introduction of the Destiny Content Vault.

Bungie has already answered many questions from players in recent updates and content teases, including changes to Gambit and details about the new element, Stasis, but have left many other questions outstanding. Some players’ questions are related to the Destiny Content Vault, which will lock away about half of the game’s content indefinitely when Beyond Light launches, while others are wondering just how much content they’re getting in the expansion.

10 Armor Transmogrification

Players have been hoarding armor for months waiting for Bungie to answer one critical question: will armor transmogrification be done through collections or inventory? In order to quell players’ fashion-related concerns about armor sunsetting, players will be able to turn their old armor into ornaments that can be applied to any future armor sets. However, players don’t know if they need the armor in hand for transmog, or if they can simply get the ornaments from their collection. Since randomly rolled armor can’t be pulled from collections, Bungie should answer this question soon for the sake of the players.

9 Vault Space

This has been an ongoing issue as Destiny 2 has ballooned in size over the past 2 years, but may actually be less of an issue when the Destiny Content Vault drops in November. Still, with armor transmog being an outstanding question, players are wondering if Bungie will increase their in-game vault storage space to more than 500 weapons/armors/consumables. With random weapon rolls and differing season-specific mod slots across different armor sets, dedicated Destiny players would love an expanded storage space for all their specialized weapon and armor rolls.

8 Exotic Weapon Catalysts

When Faction Rallies were effectively canceled before Forsaken launched, the catalysts for Sweet Business, Graviton Lance, and Sunshot all became unavailable. It took Bungie until Season of the Drifter more than 2 seasons later to make them obtainable again. Many activities that are tied to Exotic Weapon catalysts are being vaulted in November, including the Menagerie with Izanagi’s Burden’s catalyst and the brilliant Zero Hour mission with Outbreak Perfected’s catalyst. Bungie hasn’t said when these catalysts will be returning and how players will be able to get them, but players are hoping they don’t have to wait multiple seasons before they return like last time.

7 Eververse Weapon Ornaments

Over the past several years, Bungie has sold ornaments through Eververse for popular weapons such as The Recluse submachine gun and the (aptly named) Beloved sniper rifle. Now that these weapons among many others are being sunset, players are left wondering if Bungie will continue to sell expensive weapon ornaments that players should only expect to get to use for 1 year (unless they’re for Exotic weapons).

Bungie could lower the price, or make ornaments more widely available from in-game activities (which they’ve already confirmed for pursuit weapons).

6 Expansion Size

Many players are looking at Bungie’s outline of the expansion and seeing an amount of content somewhere in between Forsaken and Shadowkeep, which may not warrant the $40 price tag for some given the lukewarm response to Shadowkeep (for reference, Forsaken and Shadowkeep were $40 and $35 at launch, respectively). 1 new element (which is admittedly huge on its own), 1 new location, 1 remastered location, 1 raid, 1 new strike, and not a whole lot else has some players wary of pre-ordering the expansion. With a dearth of content being vaulted, players are hoping Bungie has some Dreaming City-sized surprises up their sleeve come November.

5 Fallen/Hive Mods

Race-specific mods are arguably the most powerful armor mods in the game and are practically necessary for the highest levels of endgame content, such as soloing dungeons. Taken mods should go untouched since they’re tied to the Last Wish raid, which isn’t being vaulted, but Fallen and Hive mods will seemingly be in purgatory when the Scourge of the Past raid and the Leviathan location, including its raid, raid lairs, and Menagerie, are all vaulted. Players are wondering if Fallen and Hive mods will still be obtainable in some way in Beyond Light, especially with the Fallen confirmed to play a big role in the expansion’s story and possibly endgame.

4 Planetary Materials

Planetary materials for Titan, Io, Mercury, and Mars are heading to the Destiny Content Vault indefinitely along with their locations. Players want to know if they should spend them now or save them (perhaps for a clearance sale the week before Beyond Light). Destiny‘s materials economy has always been a bit daunting, so players could use some clarity as to what the exact planetary currency changes will be in the coming months.

3 Number Of Seasons In Year 4

With Beyond Light‘s delay, Season of Arrivals was extended for an additional 2 months. Bungie hasn’t yet clarified if Year 4 will have 1 fewer season, shorter seasons than originally intended, or if this “delayed” November launch cycle will carry over into next year and the seasons will go untouched.

Many players have pre-ordered the season pass expecting 4 full seasons worth of content, so this is an issue that Bungie should address sooner rather than later.

2 Vault Of Glass And Cosmodrome Strikes

Players shouldn’t expect Bungie to reveal the release date for the remastered Cosmodrome strikes and Vault of Glass raid before Beyond Light drops, but some players are wondering if Beyond Light‘s delay is going to delay the rest of year 4’s content. If Destiny will be as devoid of content as some players are expecting in November, they will certainly want to know how long they’ll have to wait before “new” content arrives. Bungie should at least address whether or not other large content drops are being significantly delayed as well.

1 New Weapons And Armor

In Season of Arrivals, Umbral Engrams were introduced that contained “updated” versions of weapons with a higher power level limit than their predecessors, such as the popular Gnawing Hunger energy auto rifle initially introduced in Season of the Drifter. This has players speculating that even though weapons and armor are being “sunset”, they may just be reintroduced with a higher power level. While some players may be excited to get to continue using their favorite old weapons, most players are hoping Bungie releases brand new weapons and armor (and not just “reskinned” or “remastered” ones) to pursue. Sunsetting should be an opportunity to release new, relevant gear to acquire and not an excuse for players to chase old items.
