Golden Joysticks 2020 Voting is Now Live | Game Rant

Voting is now live for the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards. This will be the 38th awards, as it began back in 1983. It is also known as The People’s Gaming Awards, and fans can start participating now in the voting process.

There are 18 different categories that can currently be voted on, including Best Multiplayer Game, Best Storytelling, and Best Visual Design. There are also a few categories that are a bit less traditional or even new, such as Best Family Game, Best Community Game, and Still Playing (a best multiplayer with games-as-a-service heavy category). A few more categories will present themselves soon, including the coveted Ultimate Game of the Year. That award will go live during the final two weeks of the voting period.

This year’s nominees include a heavy dose of The Last of Us Part 2, Paradise Killer, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which won TGS’ Game of the Year award this year. Each category has 8 nominees, except for the Most Wanted category that is packed with 12 games to choose from.

The Most Wanted category is an intriguing one, as it will show which upcoming video games for fall and beyond voters are most excited about. There are many options to chose from, in all different genres and platforms, including Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Halo Infinite, Resident Evil 8: Village, Deathloop, Horizon Forbidden West, and Elden Ring.

Another game that is heavily represented among the nominees is Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, which saw remarkable success in the second half of the Summer. The hilarious last-man-standing game is nominated in the popular category, Best Multiplayer Game, and the developer, Mediatonic, is nominated for Studio of the Year.

The first game ever to win Game of the Year for The Golden Joystick Awards was Jetpac, an arcade-style shooter on the ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, Commodore VIC-20. Fans can vote for the more prestigious awards to mark the game’s place in history, and according to the nominations alone, the extremely well-received Hades has a chance to take home some hardware, as it is tied for the most nominations.

The 2020 Golden Joystick Awards will be entirely online for the first time this year, and it is presented by GamesRadar. Voting for the awards will close on November 2, 2020, so those who are interested will want to take advantage soon. Last year’s Golden Joystick Awards saw Resident Evil 2 take home the Ultimate Game of the Year award.
