Fortnite players may be get an exciting new weapon soon, according to a recent leak supposedly revealing a brand-new heavy weapon for the battle royale. Players may be losing access to Fortnite Birthday Bash rewards when the event ends on October 1, but it looks like there may be something new to get hyped about just over the horizon.
In the midst of Epic’s ongoing legal battles with Apple and Google and the Marvel crossover event, many Fortnite players just keep playing the battle royale like normal. Whether or not Fortnite comes back to iOS as a mobile download on the App Store is up in the air, but all that most Fortnite players can do is keep playing and enjoying the game’s content and rewards. And there may be some seriously game-changing content coming very soon, if recent leaks are anything to go by.
The latest Fortnite update gave dataminers access to a brand-new set of files, and one of these file-combers who goes by the name Mang0e believes they’ve found something significant. The dataminer shared what was found on Twitter: a new gun that looks like a mix between a minigun and a grenade launcher, which is an interesting combination, to say the least. Mang0e also shared an image of the gun mesh and a text file of the accompanying weapon stats.
When miniguns arrived in Fortnite, many players were excited to utilize a new weapon type that fires nearly as quickly as the SMG. The grenade launcher can only be found in Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary, and contrary to its name, it launches rockets. However, both are viable weapons and a combination between the two could have some interesting ramifications on the metagame.
Some comments on the original tweet argue that the file isn’t new, and has been in the game for a while without being used. Other people disagree that it’s always existed and say the files are new, and still others claim that perhaps this Fortnite leak is about a weapon that’s had existing files for a while, but is only now going to finally be used.
Overall, the news is exciting the people who do believe it, with some people even agreeing that they’ll like any new content in Fortnite even if it’s weak or overpowered. Of course, many players have higher standards than that, so people will just have to wait and see if this is indeed a new weapon coming to Fortnite that people will have to draw their own conclusions from if it becomes usable.
