Genshin Impact Character Tier List | Game Rant

Genshin Impact, the free-to-play action-RPG from miHoYo, released this week to a warm critical reception. The game takes place in a fantasy open-world, where players can explore, battle enemies and unlock new characters. As a Gacha game, these characters are at the core of Genshin Impact, and players will be able to control a party of up to four of them at once.

Choosing which of the 24 characters to take on a journey can be tough. Each has a weapon and a magical element associated with them, as well as a set of unique active and passive Skills. The combination of Genshin Impact‘s weapons. elements, and skills makes every character feel different, and some are definitely more powerful than others.

S-Tier characters are the best of the best. Powerful, fun to use, and effective both on their own and when playing Genshin Impact Co-op. These characters most often represent a combination of weapon and element that works really well together, allowing them to meet any challenge.

  • Diluc: Pyro (Fire). Rarity 5. Claymore. Diluc’s Elemental Burst and Charged Attacks allow him to deal huge single-target damage as well as spread it over a wide area. His Pyro powers are also great for exploring Genshin Impact‘s open-world.
  • Keqing: Electro (Lighting). Rarity 5. Sword. Keqing is a user-friendly character, with easy, effective melee attacks. She can also attack at long range, and her Electro powers can cause major Elemental Reactions.
  • Venti: Anemo (Wind). Rarity 5. Bow. Venti’s bow makes him a great boss killer, able to target weak points with pinpoint accuracy. He can also dodge attacks easily with his Anemo powers.
  • Qiqi: Cryo (Frost). Rarity 5. Sword. Qiqi’s basic sword attacks are easy to use and effective, but her Cryo powers are her real strength. She can freeze enemies, deal Cryo damage over time, and even heal Allies.
  • Mona: Hydro (Water). Rarity 5. Catalyst. A great character to unlock in Genshin Impact, Mona’s Hydro powers give her some unique movement options, allowing her to quickly traverse the battlefield. Her Catalyst weapon also allows her to deal elemental damage with her basic attacks, and she can easily set up Reactions with her Skill.
  • Jean: Anemo (Wind). Rarity 5. Sword. Jean can knock enemies back with her wind attack, potentially dropping them off cliffs and into pits. She can also draw enemies in, allowing her to fight on her own terms.

A-Tier characters are one step from greatness, often just a little behind their S-Tier rivals. This might be because of a slightly unfortunate combination of Genshin Impact‘s weapons and elements, or simply a minor flaw in their playstyle.

  • Xiao: Anemo (Wind). Rarity 5. Polearm. Xiao’s ability to fly makes him great at exploration, and his Elemental Skill combos well with it. His Polearm allows for swift attacks, allowing to overwhelm enemies.
  • Klee: Pyro (Fire). Rarity 5. Catalyst. A powerful ranged character, Klee’s bombs allow her to damage many targets at once. Her Elemental Skill summons mines, which can be detonated to cover a huge area of the battlefield.
  • Barbara: Hydro (Water). Rarity 4. Catalyst. Barbara is a great support character, able to heal a full party. Her Hydro skills also allow her to cover a large area in water, making it easy to set up Elemental Reactions.
  • Fischl: Electro (Lighting). Rarity 4. Bow. Fischl is an Electro character who combines powerful Lightning attacks with her raven, Oz. While her Skills give her AoE damage, her bow allows her to strike with precision.
  • Chongyun: Cryo (Frost). Rarity 4. Claymore. Although Chongyun attacks slowly, his claymore hits hard. He can also use his Cryo skills to imbue the blade with Frost damage.
  • Razor: Electro (Lighting). Rarity 4. Claymore. Razor is all about close-range combat, dishing out heavy damage with his claymore. His Elemental Skills are lackluster, but his Burst improves his melee attacks.

B-Tier characters are either average across the board, or have a major drawback that keeps them out of A-tier. While not bad picks for a party in Genshin Impact, they’re often overshadowed by others.

  • Traveler (Wind): Anemo (Wind). Rarity 5. Sword. The female Traveler twin is a capable combatant, with easy-to-direct attacks whether using PC, PS4, or mobile controls. Her wind attacks also give her the ability to strike a wide area.
  • Ningguang: Geo (Earth). Rarity 4. Catalyst. Ningguang is a tough, ranged character that specializes in defensive skills. Her shield protects against ranged attacks, and she can return fire with homing gems.
  • Xingqiu: Hydro (Water). Rarity 4. Sword. Xingqiu’s Burst allows her to cover multiple enemies in water, but her melee attacks are lackluster.
  • Sucrose: Anemo (Wind). Rarity 4. Catalyst. Sucrose can deal good elemental damage, and her Skill allows her to control the battlefield with Wind.
  • Lisa: Electro (Lightning). Rarity 4. Catalyst. As an Electro-user Lisa can hit many targets at once with elemental damage. Her Lightning powers are also useful in Reactions, causing high amounts of damage.
  • Xiangling: Pyro (Fire). Rarity 4. Polearm. A great lower-tier exploration character, Xiangling is agile and capable. Her sweeping melee attacks are easy to use, and her Burst ability has a wide area of effect.

C-Tier characters are the weakest of the bunch, and will often struggle to match up to their compatriots. Despite this, they can be useful early on in the game, before higher-tier characters have been unlocked.

  • Noelle: Geo (Earth). Rarity 4. Claymore. A tough, front-line character, Noelle can protect others even while off the field. Unfortunately, her offensive powers are lacking.
  • Traveler (Earth): Geo (Earth). Rarity 5. Sword. The male Traveler twin is more close-ranged and can strike a wide-area at once.
  • Amber: Pyro (Fire). Rarity 4. Bow. Amber’s Pyro skills and precision bow make her a decent, if not exceptional, explorer.
  • Beidou: Electro (Lightning). Rarity 4. Claymore. Beidou is another claymore character who loves to get stuck in, though she doesn’t hit quite as hard as some of her compatriots.
  • Bennett: Pyro (Fire). Rarity 4. Sword. Bennett’s powers make for easy Reactions, but his Skill can be tricky to use.
  • Kaeya: Cryo (Frost). Rarity 4. Sword. Kaeya’s sword and Cryo skills are easy to use, but her frequent knockbacks can often cause more harm than good.

We can expect to see many more characters introduced to Genshin Impact over the coming months, filling in the gaps between the existing heroes. It’s even possible that a major update might introduce new weapons, or new elemental styles.

Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
