Godfall is Less Expensive on PC | Game Rant

Godfall is a looter-slasher developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. The game will be a console exclusive to the PS5, but will also release on the PC. It was recently confirmed that Godfall will cost $70 on the PS5, but now it has also been revealed that the PC version will be $10 cheaper.

The physical and digital listings of Godfall for PS5 have appeared online, and regardless of the version, it will cost $69.99 USD. However, the Epic Games Store has the PC version listed at $59.99 USD. The same $10 gap exists regardless of the special or standard editions of the game. The heftier Ascended Edition of Godfall will come in at $99.99 on PS5, and cost $89.99 on PC. Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition is available for $89.99 on PS5, and it will cost $79.99 on PC.

Godfall is certainly not the first game to cost $70 for this generation; NBA 2K21 led the charge of the higher price-rate earlier this year. It may become the standard price moving forward. However, it is a bit perplexing that the PC version is $10 cheaper. PC games are often at the forefront in terms of graphical fidelity and pure horsepower with games. And if Godfall doesn’t even have a current-gen version of the game, then one would assume the PC and PS5 versions of the game will be comparable.

While some analysts argue that fans will happily pay $70 for next-gen games, many are upset with the price hike. The fact that the PC versions of some games are actually cheaper will likely only add to the confusion and annoyance. Consistency with game pricing would also be nice, as the start of this generation may be more confusing than anything for some fans.

Third-party game publishers appear to have varied tactics in terms of pricing as well, usually depending on the publisher. So far, Ubisoft has all of its next-gen games listed at $60, while Activision titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will cost $70. Meanwhile, some developers still don’t have a set policy, like Capcom’s input on the price increase, saying that it is considering industry trends with its approach.

Regardless of where games fall in terms of pricing in the next-gen, a consistent message would be appreciated, as would simply locking down a specific price moving forward. Godfall is a good example of the general confusion, as it just doesn’t feel right to pay more for a game on PS5 that, up to this point, seems to have the same general features and performance as its PC counterpart.

Godfall releases on November 12, 2020, for PC and PS5.
