Left 4 Dead 2: 10 Newest Additions In The Last Stand Update

Left 4 Dead 2 is one of Valve’s best games, offering survival from zombies – both normal and some creepy ones. The last official campaign added to the game was in 2012, meaning players had to download custom campaigns to experience something new. With the Last Stand update, players no longer had to resort to downloads.

Along with the new campaign, a few major changes were also added to the game. Players are able to see some new content in the form of weapons and maps, while the game also got a few much-needed tweaks. Fans of the game are sure to have some new addition to be excited about.

10 Counter-Strike Weapons Added

Weapons from Counter-Strike were in the game for German players, but The Last Stand Update made these weapons available for everyone. Players are now able to find the combat knife, AWP, the MP5, and a few others. While some players might not have known about these weapons, it is a welcomed addition.

The models look like they came from Counter-Strike: Source, tweaked slightly to fit the Left 4 Dead 2 art style. It is a nice addition to see Left 4 Dead 2 get a few new weapons (even if they were there for international players).

9 New Melee Weapons

Along with the Counter-Strike weapons, two new melee weapons were also added to the game. A pitchfork and shovel make an appearance now, appearing more often in farmland areas. These weapons can still appear in urban settings, it is just rarer.

Both new weapons also have unique swing and hit sounds. The pitchfork is considered a shredding melee weapon, spewing blood on the player’s screen, while the shovel will not.

8 New Achievements

For fans of achievements, The Last Stand Update has added 30 new ones. There are the usual achievements for completing the campaign, but there are also a few new additions relating to killing infected and rescuing survivors. A nice addition is that a few achievements relate to the original campaigns.

There is also a scavenger hunt achievement, requiring players to find a golden crowbar in all Left 4 Dead 1 survival maps – a reference to Gordon Freeman’s famous weapon.

7 L4D1 Models Return

When it came to the Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns in the second game, it did not make a lot of sense to have southern zombies on this map. The first game takes place in the north, and these regions have very different styles of dressing. With The Last Stand Update,  this problem is fixed and the infected will take on the appropriate appearance for different campaigns.

These models are also updated to have the same gore effects as the southern infected. It is definitely a welcomed addition, meaning the infected will match their region perfectly.

6 New Mutations Added

Included are two new Mutation modes for players. One is called Tank Run, which has only tanks spawning in the mode. It will add to the difficulty of campaigns, meaning players could potentially be punched to their death – either off a rooftop or into water.

The other Mutation is called Rocketdude and removes any bot survivors. Players are given 200 HP, a grenade launcher with infinite ammo and clip size, and a sharp melee weapon or magnum. The grenades do full damage to infected, but send players and props into the air. Only pain pills and adrenaline spawn in this mode, but players can get hidden mushroom pickups that act as health packs.

5 Menu Changes

The Last Stand Update made a few changes of Left 4 Dead 2’s main menu. The Single Player option was removed from the main menu carousel, with Versus Survival being added to the carousel instead.

While not exactly on the main menu, players can now choose to make lobbies private by enabling ‘Private Game’ in options. Voice chat was also fixed in lobbies, allowing players to talk with each other before the game begins.

4 26 New Survival Maps

Fans of Survival Mode will be excited, as 26 new Survival maps were added to the game. New locations include the gas station in ‘Hard Rain’, the Mardi Gras float in ‘The Parish’, and the train station in ‘Blood Harvest’. With the addition of these maps, there are now about 56 Survival maps in Left 4 Dead 2.

Players will now have 26 more maps to choose from and survive in. A few of the new Survival maps are from Left 4 Dead 1, allowing players to survive on their favorite campaign from both games.

3 Fixed Bugs

The Last Stand Update introduced a few bug fixes to the game. One major fix makes it so spawning infinite pistols will no longer lag or crash a player’s game. A few other bug fixes include making it so players cannot avoid boomer bile on their screens by going idle.

A few bugs also make it so players cannot cheat their way through a finale. Players can no longer stand in certain spots to prevent the spawning of mobs during a finale. It is a nice touch, as the team behind the update also added a few fixes to the game.

2 Four New Scavenge Maps

Also included in the update are four new Scavenge maps. Players will now have even more maps to battle friends with because of the update. It’s nice to see Scavenge get some love in this update, as the mode does not get a lot of attention. With the inclusion of a few new achievements relating to the mode, it might encourage players to try it out more.

1 New Campaign

‘The Last Stand’ Survival map was turned into an actual campaign. It features two chapters, called The Junkyard and Lighthouse Finale. The campaign comes with new Easter eggs for players to find, along with a graffiti tribute to Bill’s voice actor, Jim French, who died in 2017.

Players are finally able to escape from the lighthouse, with a fishing boat coming to rescue the players. The survivors are brought to an island off the mainland, escaping the infected. Fans of the series could possibly see this as an alternate ending to Left 4 Dead 1, with Bill surviving until the end.
