Magic: The Gathering Player Makes Amazing Among Us Card Alter

Despite coming out in 2018, Among Us has only exploded in popularity this year, recently hitting 3 million concurrent players. Any game that popular is bound to rub off onto other fandoms, and recently, it’s made an appearance in one Magic: The Gathering player’s collection. A user on Reddit has created a Magic card alter that features a situation that many Among Us players are far too familiar with.

Each Magic: The Gathering card normally features art that reflects the abilities of the card. For example, a card that gives a creature flying could feature an image of animal with wings. However some of the more artistically minded Magic fans have taken to altering the art on their cards, using a mix of mediums to create their own unique takes on the games visuals.

A Redditor, going by the name of 7pri2, recently altered the card Kaya’s Ghostform, transforming the card into an homage to Among Us. Kaya’s Ghostform is a common rarity card from Magic’s War of the Spark expansion. It’s an enchantment that a player can put onto a creature or planeswalker, and the next time that creature or planeswalker dies, instead of going to the graveyard, it returns to the battlefield.

7pri2 transformed the card, replacing the Magic art with that of a floating crewmate, looking down at their recently murdered body. The crewmate is named Kaya, a reference to the Magic character from whom the card gets its name. The art is very well done, and perfectly captures the frustration that one feels after being murdered by an imposter. The alter is also clever, in that the art still matches with the ability of the card. After a crewmate is murdered in Among Us, they still have to work to finish their tasks. Much like a creature enchanted with Kaya’s Ghostform, death isn’t the end for Among Us crewmates.

One of the things that is wonderful about Magic: The Gathering is the level of creativity that players can express. For most players, that creativity is in their deck building choices. But others, like 7pri2, take things a step further. One Magic super-fan went so far as to decorate an entire room of their house with Magic: The Gathering Cards, turning their home into a literal monument to the game. There are very few games about which fans are so passionate, and that passion is one of the reasons that so many new players are keep coming to the game nearly 30 years after the game launched.
