Pokemon GO has finally made Victini available to all players with the release of new Special Research on September 30. Players who missed out on GO Fest 2020 can now take advantage of “The Feeling of Victory” to capture the elusive Psychic/Fire-type Mythical Pokemon.
“The Feeling of Victory” Special Research is broken up into six stages loosely focused on Fire/Psychic-type Pokemon and the number “three.” Once completed, “The Feeling of Victory” leaves players with their own Victini, and various different items that’ll help power up the cute critter. Pokemon GO has a history of introducing Mythical Pokemon via Special Research, so this should come as no surprise to veterans of the series.
As mentioned above, this Special Research is broken up into six parts, and thankfully, it’s free to access unlike recent Porygon-themed Special Research tasks. That said, “The Feeling of Victory” is a particularly unique set of Special Research because it doesn’t conclude with catching the Mythical Pokemon in question. Players can see below that Victini itself actually plays a part in the completion of its research. “The Feeling of Victory” consists of the following tasks and rewards:
- Catch 30 Pokemon – 3 Pinap Berries
- Spin 30 PokeStops or Gyms – 1,000 XP
- Send 10 Gifts to Friends – 1,000 Stardust
Rewards: 10 Great Balls, Ralts Encounter*, 1,000 Stardust
- Catch 30 Psychic-type Pokemon – Elgyem Encounter
- Catch 30 Fire-type Pokemon – Darumaka Encounter
- Hatch 3 Eggs – Egg Incubator
Rewards: 1,000 XP, Torchic Encounter*, 30 Great Balls
- Take a snapshot of your buddy – Poffin
- Earn 3 Candies walking with your buddy – 1,000 XP
- Power Up Pokemon 3 times – 3 Hyper Potions
Rewards: 3 Revives, Espeon Encounter, 1,000 Stardust
- Win 3 Gym Battles – 1,000 XP
- Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts – Lure Module
- Win 3 Raids – 1,000 Stardust
Rewards: 3 Max Potions, Victini Encounter**, 3 Max Revives
** Players who have already captured Victini will receive 20 Victini Candies instead.
- Take a Snapshot of Victini – 20 Victini Candies
- Catch 30 different species of Pokemon – Incense
- Send 3 Gifts to Friends – 1,000 XP
Rewards: 5 Victini Stickers, 3,000 Stardust, Star Piece
- Clear Reward – 3,000 XP
- Clear Reward – 3,000 Stardust
- Clear Reward – 3,000 XP
Rewards: Lure Module, 20 Victini Candy, Lucky Egg
* All starred encounters can appear as their Shiny variants.
This set of research tasks certainly takes Pokemon Trainers on a grand tour of Pokemon GO features. That is to say, it may require some time to complete. Although many of the initial tasks, like catching different Pokemon, can be quickly knocked out, tasks like hatching eggs and completing Raid Battles will either require precious PokeCoin spending, or simple waiting. That being said, it’s great to know that players will emerge from the Special Research with Lures, Incense, Candy, and even an Incubator, in hand.
Players should also note that now that “The Feeling of Victory” is available to all players, it can be completed whenever. There are no time constraints as of now, so Pokemon Trainers are welcome to chip away at the Special Research slowly if that’s preferred. However, with perks like half-hatch distance leaving soon, players may want to act sooner rather than later.
