It was recently announced that Pokemon GO players would be able to transfer their Pokemon over to their Switch consoles with Pokemon Home. Some players weren’t happy with the news that there would be a paywall for those who want to do this. However, this paywall doesn’t have to use currency from the real world.
Thanks to information provided by Serebii.com on Twitter, more information on the Pokemon GO to Pokemon Home transfers has been revealed. This information clears up that transferring multiple Pokemon will cause a cooldown that can be skipped via paying PokeCoins in Pokemon GO.
By transferring to Pokemon Home, players can bring Pokemon that joined them on their mobile adventures to the Galar Region. The only restriction is that the Pokemon needs to be available in the Galar Pokedex.
The information provided by Serebii doesn’t clarify how long this cooldown will take, or how many PokeCoins it will take to skip the cooldown. Players will have to wait until this update comes to both Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home later this year. To unlock the majority of Pokemon Home‘s features, however, players need to pay the price of a premium subscription to the service.
To subscribe to Pokemon Home‘s premium service, it will cost $2.99 USD for one month, $4.99 USD for three months, or $15.99 USD for a full year. It is unknown if the premium service will be required for the Pokemon GO transfers.
Players can technically already transfer Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Home with certain limitations and extra steps. This method requires players to own Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu or Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee. Players can only transfer Kanto Pokemon and their regional variants with this method.
By transferring Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu or Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee, players can then transfer these Pokemon to Pokemon Home. This method doesn’t have cooldowns at this time, but it is unknown if this method will change when this new update for Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home comes around.
The future update that allows direct transfers between Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home will be coming later this year. While PokeCoins are available for purchase with real money in Pokemon GO, there are multiple in-game ways to obtain PokeCoins for free. Those who don’t want to worry about cooldowns between transfers should load up on coins before the update comes.
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
