Prehistoric Kingdom received an early access announcement trailer, filled with ancient creatures and narration by British TV nature host Nigel Marven. The game will see its early access begin on Steam in Q2 2021.
Prehistoric Kingdom is being developed by Blue Meridian and published by Crytivo. The title is a park management game that has players designing, watching over, and taking care of their ancient creature zoo. At first glance, it looks very similar to Jurassic World Evolution, a Tycoon-like game released in 2018.
Thanks to a biological breakthrough, prehistoric creatures such as the Lambeosaurus, Styracosaurus, Mammuthus, Smilodon, Coelodonta, and Triceratops are back from extinction, and it is up to the player to keep them alive and thriving. Based on the documentary-style video, players will be able to create many different types of enclosures for the animals, including closed in areas for small birds and massive open plains for behemoth-sized creatures.
Players will also be able to transform the biomes to best suit the needs of the creatures, including tropical, wetland, and coastal environments. The animals are one thing to take care of, as the guests of the park also need attention. Amenities and buildings can be designed to keep customers happy, all important parts in the best tycoon/business simulator games.
The parallels to Jurassic Park are impossible to avoid when viewing the trailer, and the end result of that experiment is well known, as is with nearly all of the best dinosaur games. So even as the Prehistoric Kingdom video is calm and tranquil, there is an almost an eerie feeling that this beautiful prehistoric zoo may have ugly consequences. And sure enough, at the end of the video, a Tyrannosaurus is seen breaking through a gate, and the narrator mentions that soon humanity could be extinct.
Prehistoric Kingdom is set to enter Steam early access in Q2 2021.
