PS5 Cat Game Stray Shares New Details | Game Rant

The upcoming cyberpunk game Stray has had some new details revealed. As of today, the introduction to Stray now features a short blurb introducing the story and an overview of several features.

Stray‘s reveal trailer made a splash back in June. A self-described cat adventure game, the trailer features a cat traversing a neon-lit cyberpunk city. Along the way, the playable cat encounters the robotic citizens of the city, with no humans in sight. Generally, people love cats. So much so, in fact, that it’s kind of a big deal when games allow players to pet cats. For players like these, playing as a feline could change the game entirely.

Since its reveal, details on the game have been scarce. With today’s update to Stray‘s webpage, however, anticipating fans gain a measure of insight into the debut offering from BlueTwelve Studio and Annapurna Interactive. According to the game overview, the titular stray must “untangle an ancient mystery” to find its way home. To do so, players will navigate the crumbling city “both high and low,” suggesting a strong focus on verticality. In addition, players will be able to use stealth to their advantage to interact with the world. This, of course, includes “sometimes [being] as annoying as possible,” as a cat is wont to do.

The stray won’t have to go it alone, though. If a cute cat with a tiny backpack isn’t enough of a sell, the stray will also befriend a small, flying drone known as B12. Unfortunately, the feature overview offers no further details on how B12 will aid the stray. Fans hoping for a deeper look into B12’s mechanics and other features might have to wait until next year, when Stray is set to release.

Stray is BlueTwelve Studio’s first game. While details are still few and far between, the track record of publisher Annapurna Interactive speaks volumes. Its catalog is loaded with critically-acclaimed games like Outer WildsKentucky Route Zero, and What Remains of Edith Finch. Much like its film-industry parent Annapurna Pictures, the Interactive division features artistic, experimental, and thoughtful games.

Sometimes, game like Edith Finch and Outer Wilds earn the “walking simulator” tag, or face criticism for being too “artsy.” What makes games of their ilk valuable, though, is that they remind players that games can be something other than violent. While certainly not for everyone, similar titles have emerged as some of the best the medium has to offer. Presumably, Stray will come from like-minded stock.

Stray is set to be released in 2021 for PC, PS4, and PS5.
