Sony Confirms Gran Turismo 7 Targeting 4K60 with HDR | Game Rant

As one of the PlayStation 5’s most anticipated titles, gamers have been eagerly awaiting more information about Gran Turismo 7 since it was announced with a short video during the console’s reveal. Sony has now updated the title’s PlayStation Store listing and website, providing more information on the targeted performance and technical features.

Fans of Polyphony Digital’s long-running series have likely been expecting a 60 frames per second target from Gran Turismo 7, but the confirmation that the game will support 4K resolution, HDR, and ray tracing while doing so will no doubt be welcomed. The last three titles in the series have all aimed for 60 fps, although Gran Turismo 5 suffered from some frame rate issues. The information also reveals that the use of a solid state storage drive will improve the experience gamers have online and in the game’s menus, allowing quicker transition to races, and instant selection of cars.

The site describes how the DualSense controller will help immerse gamers in Gran Turismo 7‘s racing, with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback providing variation in throttle and brake weights, as well as more detailed feedback from bumps and tire surface contact. While the Tempest 3D AudioTech is reported to allow gamers to better sense where other cars are, including a sense of depth and height during replays.

Although Gran Turismo Sport was released on the PlayStation 4, the last full-featured title in the series was released back in late 2013 on the PlayStation 3. So expectation and anticipation is particularly high for the seventh game, with fans hoping that developer Polyphony Digital can take full advantage of the PlayStation 5 hardware to create a visual showcase for the system. Early indications are that the title will also please fans with the return of the GT Simulation Mode campaign, and promising “hundreds of cars” to tune and customize.

While no launch date has been announced for Gran Turismo 7, rumors have suggested a release within the “launch window” of the PlayStation 5, meaning it could be available before the end of the year. The eighth title in the competing Forza Motorsport series is expected in early 2021 on Xbox Series X and Series S, so fans of both titles can expect to spend a lot of time analyzing the technical details of each game to determine which, if any, performs better.

Positively, it means that regardless of whether gamers opt for PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X/S, there will likely be a great new motorsport title available before much of 2021 has passed.

Gran Turismo 7 is expected to launch by the end of 2020.
