Another Classic Franchise Wants To Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

With the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster continuing to grow larger and larger, fans have requested numerous characters from various gaming franchises. Few players have likely requested to see this franchise make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. however, as it’s quite random.

Following the official reveal of the impressively detailed Minecraft DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one iconic SEGA franchise requested to join Smash, and it is likely not one fans would expect. The official account for none other than Tetris tweeted out the hilarious gif from Dumb and Dumber with the line “so you’re telling me there’s a chance” in response to the news.

While the post was likely just made in good fun and should be taken as a joke, Tetris would not be the weirdest addition ever made to the Super Smash Bros series. The series has a solid connection to the Nintendo platform, with the battle royale game Tetris 99 launching with the Switch and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 releasing this December. Based on the tweet, the hardest thing about getting Tetris into Smash likely would not be getting approval, but instead would be coming up with a move-set for Tetris blocks.

A Tetris fighter would obviously be hard to make work, but the talented Smash development team could surely find a way to pull it off. Perhaps the default Tetris block could form into other blocks to pull off different attacks, while the Final Smash for Tetris could see dozens of blocks falling from the sky to decimate opponents. The character would certainly be an interesting addition to the Smash Bros. series, and likely would not take the intense amount of effort it took to make Minecraft work in Smash.

With more rumors than ever before pointing to Overwatch’s Tracer coming to Smash next, it would be awhile before a Tetris crossover happened. While a Tetris fighter will likely never see the light of day, at least fans got a funny interaction between the Tetris and Smash Bros series. Fans will likely be taking quite some time to master all of Steve’s move set anyway, as it seems to be quite extensive and unique. Whenever a new fighter does come, though, the community will likely be ready to go — regardless of if it is Tracer or some Tetris cubes.

While Smash players are busy with Minecraft goodies, Tetris fans have plenty to look forward to as well. If Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is not enough later this year, Tetris Effect and all its visual splendor is one of the games coming to Xbox Series X on launch day.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
