Season 6 of Call of Duty: Warzone introduced the SP-R 208 Marksman Rifle to the game. This rifle is a bolt-action high-velocity gun that has been quickly gaining a reputation among the Warzone community.
While multiplayer has had balance concerns about the other new weapon, the AS VAL, not much has been heard about the SP-R 208. That is, until videos started appearing showcasing the destructive potential that the rifle has due to an issue in its physics.
One such video was posted by Reddit user mr_darksidez who was more than happy to showcase the power behind this gun. Using a scope, the player zooms in and gets a clear sight into their soon to be victims. Firing the first shot, the rifle headshots the player instantly giving an almost hitscan response to the SP-R 208 marksman rifle’s bullet drop. A second shot, a second victim, and with the third shot they execute the first person dropped. That makes for two downs and a kill within five seconds despite the weapon being a bolt action rifle. The video ends with the player eliminating the other downed enemy before hiding in cover for a strategic reload.
Unlike Season 6 AS VAL’s high wall penetration, the problem with the SPR-208 is its hitscan level accuracy. The travel time between firing and impact is minimal and the lack of bullet fall makes it appear almost instantaneous. This allows any solid headshot to down an enemy, and in skilled hands, this can mean a team wipe in less than 10 seconds.
Many fans are comparing the gun to the KAR 98k but with faster reloads, attachments, and a better range. Due to its speed and damage, many players believe that it makes other snipers obsolete as it simply outpaces them in Warzone gunfights.
While many fans are expected a nerf, a segment of the community argues that the gun is fun. That fun factor may be enough to stop a complete overhaul as fans love certain features from the gun. Still, the hitscan speed is troublesome on a competitive level, many fans believe that the weapon could be easily fixed by simply patching damage.
At the end of the day, there is also the matter of attachments to keep in mind. It could be one of the many Warzone marksman rifle attachment slots skewing a section of the gun’s physics as many of the videos are using a similar loadout. The problem could easily be inherent to the attachments rather than the gun itself.
