Minecraft Adding Community-Voted Mob Glow Squid | Game Rant

Minecraft Live 2020 is now over. The video presentation that replaced this year’s MineCon convention was full of talks with Mojang developers and teasers for upcoming Minecraft content. One exciting aspect of the show was the community vote. This year the vote was for a brand new Minecraft mob, and Mojang offered up three unique choices for Minecraft fans to choose from. This year, the winner of the contest is the attention-grabbing Glow Squid.

The three mobs available for Minecraft fans to vote on this year included the Moobloom, a friendly cow that pairs well with bees; the Icologer, an Illager that attacks with conjured ice blocks; and the Glow Squid. The Glow Squid is immediately recognizable in that it literally glows, brightening the deep parts of the ocean. It also seems to have a mysterious power, as the teasers for Glow Squid hinted that it has a way of mesmerizing players.

There is no current timeline for the Glow Squid to be put into Minecraft. It might be part of the newly announced Caves & Cliffs update, or it could come separately as part of another content patch. Regardless of when it arrives, it’s now on Mojang’s list of upcoming content, meaning Minecraft‘s oceans are going to get a lot more glowy.

Mojang’s tradition of letting fans vote for content that will be added to Minecraft at MineCon (and now Minecraft Live) started in 2017. That first vote introduced the Phantom. In 2018 and 2019, the vote changed and selected a new biome for Minecraft instead. Now, in 2020, fans are back to voting for a new mob, meaning the world of Minecraft is constantly growing. What the vote will consist of next year is currently unknown.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
