PS5 Storage and Startup Screen Images Leak Online | Game Rant

In just a little over a month’s time, Sony will be launching its highly-anticipated next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. With the PS5 release date right around the corner, the console appears to be getting in the hands of more video game development studios. And as a result, some alleged images of the console’s storage and startup screen have seemingly leaked online.

These PS5 images were shared by Twitter user Okami13, known for their accurate video game industry leaks, like the existence of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. But even though Okami has more credibility than many other leakers, fans should still take these images with a grain of salt. It’s entirely within the realm of possibility that they have been faked or doctored in some way.

With that disclaimer in mind, the images show that the PS5 storage space is 664 GB. This means some significant space on the PS5 is reserved for the operating system files. Additionally, the game Astro’s Playroom comes pre-installed on all PS5 consoles, and that takes up a 2.4 GB. If players want, they can uninstall Astro’s Playroom to get a little bit of extra storage space on their console. But since the game is designed to teach players about the unique features of the PS5 DualSense controller, they may as well play through it first.

Besides storage, the other PS5 images leaked include some images of the PS5 startup screen, giving players a brief glimpse at the UI. Sony previously teased the PS5 startup in an official capacity, and it seems that general aesthetic is intact. Okami pointed out that the PS5 has “PS3 vibes,” and it does seem to somewhat mimic the look of the PlayStation 3 start-up and home screens. Fans should get a better look at it closer to launch.

Whether or not fans like the PS5 startup screen is likely secondary to their concerns about storage. Storage is already a major a concern for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, especially since it’s been confirmed that Xbox Series X SSD storage expansion cards will retail for over $200. Pricing information for PS5 storage expansion has yet to be revealed, but one has to imagine that it will be similarly expensive.

With games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition taking up over 100 GB alone, it’s safe to say that storage is going to be an issue with PS5 right out of the gate. It will be interesting to see how video game companies and the console manufacturers themselves respond to these concerns as the generation goes on.
