AbleGamers #Unlocktober 2020 Fundraiser Now Underway | Game Rant

Most would agree that gaming should be enjoyed by all, but there’s a glaring weakness in the industry’s measures to help disabled gamers have great experiences. Many games are simply unplayable by these groups due to physical or mental barriers, but AbleGamers is making strides in changing that. This charity organization raises funds to help disabled gamers by designing custom controllers and other systems that let them play almost any game.

This of course does not come cheap, so #Unlocktober allows AbleGamers to raise some money for the cause. Those wanting to help can donate directly to AbleGamers, but the group is also setting up a number of charity streams as well. A catchy slogan helps explain the premise: “A day of gaming for you could mean a lifetime of gaming for someone else.” The charity is asking anyone interested to sign up for a charity stream.

Some recent games like The Last of Us 2 have made strides in terms of accessibility, but it is still extremely lacking in most cases. Though these things may not be very apparent to gamers that don’t require many accessibility options to play a game, their inclusion often means the world to disabled gamers.

Players should take part in Unlocktober one way or another, whether that’s by streaming their own charity stream or tuning into someone else’s. More gamers means a healthier community, and AbleGamers seeks to help disabled gamers around the world by providing them the tools they need to play and the voice they need to make a change.
