Things may have slowed considerably in the extended season for Destiny 2 players, but help is soon on the way. This week, Bungie revealed the 2020 version of the Festival of the Lost, Destiny‘s version of a Halloween celebration. As expected, the Haunted Forest is making its return this year bringing multiple treasure chests to be earned as well as mask wearing bonuses. Thankfully, it sounds like Bungie is not only bringing back classic masks from years past, but there will be new ones to collect as well.
In addition to Haunted Forest runs, Horror Story and Braytech Werewolf will also be available with new randomized perks to chase. Players will be able to unlock new triumphs, special mummified versions of items like sparrows, Ghosts, and ships, as well as Eververse items which can be purchased for Bright Dust of Silver Coins. Better yet, every Eververse item will be up for sale for Bright Dust except one special finisher called One Inch Punch.
Before the festivities begin next week, Destiny 2 players can visit the exotic merchant Xur over the next few days. Follow this guide for his location as well as a review of what he’s currently selling for the weekend of October 2, 2020.
Over the next few days, Xur can be found hanging out in his cave within Giant’s Scar on Io.
Once loaded in, immediately head through the building into the area with the large drill in the center. Head left through the gate and follow the edges of the zone to the top left corner of the map where Xur is hiding in a cave.
Keep in mind that Xur is no longer selling collection rolled gear, a welcomed change of pace from the past few years. The armor he now has features randomized stats and perks, which should revitalize player interest in what the merchant has each week. In addition, players can use an Exotic Cypher to purchase a second fated engram from the merchant.
Here are Xur’s three gear pieces this weekend:
Skull of Dire Ahamkara – Warlock helmet
Just like the weapon on sale this week, the Skull of Dire Ahamkara was once the cream of the Warlock exotic crop. Bungie felt the item was too strong, however, and a nerf has made this helm a shadow of what it once was. It’s armor perk is Actual Grandeur which not only provides additional damage resistance when casting Nova Bomb, but kills grant super energy.
Naturally, this is a Voidwalker specific armor piece, but due to recent nerfs its hard to recommend over some other choices that Warlocks have access to like Nezarec’s Sin or Contraverse Hold.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +14
- Resilience +8
- Recovery +10
- Discipline +20
- Intellect +2
- Strength +9
Ophidia Spathe – Hunter chest armor
Back once more after about a month is the Ophidia Spathe armor for Hunters. Scissor Fingers is its unique perk which grants Hunters two throwing knives instead of the typical one.
For those who enjoy rolling the Gunslinger subclass, the Ophidia Spathe synergizes particularly well with the Way of a Thousand Cuts and Gambler’s Dodge. It essentially allows the player to nearly continuously throw knives. This week’s edition is also high in strength for those looking to create a build with that value. Either way, this is a solid, if unspectacular exotic for Hunters this week. It’s also worth noting that of all three items this week, the Ophidia Spathe has one of the highest roll values.
Solar Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +10
- Resilience +7
- Recovery +16
- Discipline 13
- Intellect +9
- Strength +9
Mask of the Quiet One – Titan Helmet
This sinister looking helmet is a subclass neutral item, meaning it can be equipped and used with any Titan subclass. It’s unique perk is called Dreaded Visage with provides ability energy when the player is damaged. When they’re critically damaged, kills regain maximum health.
In the current meta, this is a viable option for Titans, though it’s worth noting that this item only restores the red bar health and not the shields like the One Eyed Mask. Getting into close range battles, this item will likely shine as it keeps players alive and filled with ability energy. It’s a useful item but certainly not required at this point.
Void Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +7
- Resilience +19
- Recovery +6
- Discipline +7
- Intellect +14
- Strength +9
Earlier this year, the Hard Light exotic auto rifle reigned supreme in nearly every aspect of Destiny 2. It was favored by most players for its rapid fire, high damage, and near zero recoil. As these things tend to go, the nerf hammer finally fell on the weapon, reducing it’s effectiveness. However, it’s still a good weapon, even if it may not be quite as good as it was earlier this season. It’s worth a pick up, especially considering the elemental damage can be changed simply by reloading.
For those who don’t know, Hard Light basically shoots lasers thanks to its Intrinsic perk, Volatile Light. Rounds fired from the weapon have reduced damage falloff, overpenetrate targets, and ricochet of hard surfaces. The more they ricochet, the more damage they inflict.
Additional perks:
- Polygonal Rifling
- Alloy Magazines
- Composite Stock
Here’s the complete rundown of Xur’s entire stock in Destiny 2 for October 2, 2020:
- Skull of Dire Ahamkara (Warlock helmet) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Ophidia Spathe (Hunter chest armor) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Mask of the Quiet One (Titan helmet) – 23 Legendary Shards
- Hardlight (Auto Rifle) – 29 Legendary Shards
- Fated Engram – 97 Legendary Shards
- Five of Swords Challenge Card
Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
