New PlayStation 5 Console and Controller Images Revealed

More images of the PlayStation 5 have been revealed ahead of the console’s reveal next month. The images, which offer better views of some of the console’s odd angles, aren’t much of an indicator of how big the PS5 is, though they should still give fans an idea of what to expect ahead of the console’s November 12 release date.

While the PS5’s specs and dimensions are now out in the wild, and have been for some time in the case of the specs, most of what fans have seen for the PS5 has been in official product photos. The new images, uploaded to 4Gamer, were captured during a media event in Tokyo, and show of the futuristic design of the console in new ways.

The PS5 is a drastic departure from the consoles gamers have seen in the past, with a curved body and bold edges that give it something of a science fiction appearance. The black finish is also far more glossy than some might have realized, though the gloss may be accentuated by overhead lights where the photos were shot.

Some up-close shots of the DualSense controller were also released, though the controller has been well documented for a while now, being the first piece of PS5 hardware to be fully revealed. Fans have spotted some neat details on the DualSense, specifically engravings of the PlayStation symbols on the controllers.

Unfortunately, the photos are standalone, so fans still don’t get a sense of the PS5’s size relative to other consoles, though it is known to be massive. Recently, an AR PS5 model found its way online, which gave fans the ability to see what the console would look like in their own homes. Of course, that’s still an imperfect way to measure it, and fans won’t truly get a sense of just how large the PS5 is until they get the chance to put their hands on one.

With the PS5 launching in just over a month, there isn’t too much longer to wait until fans get to see the console for themselves. While PS5 pre-orders were a complete debacle, even those that were unable to lock one down should be able to find a retail demo unit, or the inevitable size comparisons bound to flood the internet after launch. It’s a bold departure from what’s been done before, but that may not be a bad thing in the end.
