Anticipation for the next generation of consoles is building and many are looking forward to the Xbox Series X. The Xbox Series X promises impressive specifications and many have been intrigued by how the system will run new titles. Despite this excitement from fans, the Xbox Series X will not be available for all players when it is first released. It is unclear exactly why there is a shortage of consoles, but a British retailer has now begun informing consumers that the pre-ordered system will not arrive on the intended date.
British retailer, ShopTo.Net has emailed customers who have pre-ordered the Xbox Series X and alerted them to delays from the manufacturer. While the email makes it clear that pre-orders will not be fulfilled on the originally planned date, it does go on to encourage consumers to wait for the console to arrive while adding what steps may be taken. The retailer noted that Microsoft may allocate more systems which would mean the company could fulfill its pre-order requests and also noted that if this happens, some consumers will benefit from being moved up the “line” after others cancel their order.
With a global pandemic impacting all industries, this year has seen the video game industry increase in popularity. Many have played consoles while self-isolating or shielding from COVID-19 but despite the number of people enjoying video games, it seems that manufacturers are struggling with demand for the next-generation because of new working regulations. The PlayStation 5 has already had its pre-orders impacted by the pandemic and it seems very likely that it has now interfered with the plans of Microsoft.
Initial comments have blamed the retailer but it does seem that the pre-orders for next-generation consoles have been needlessly complicated. It will be interesting to see how fans react to these allocation issues and whether they will begin rescinding pre-orders or if they will wait and hope for more systems to become available. Either way pre-ordering the systems will be the quickest way to get the consoles but many will be disappointed that it will not arrive on the day that they had expected.
There’s hope among players that more systems are allocated to retailers as the holiday season approaches and demand increases. Whether this can be achieved remains to be seen, but if Xbox or PlayStation wants to maximize profits this winter then it will likely be a top priority.
The Xbox Series X is set to launch on November 12th, 2020.
