Among Us Bug Forces Imposter to Kill Themself and Lose the Game

As the latest viral gaming sensation, Among Us is inspiring creativity and laughs throughout the internet. When it comes to memes, or even physical creations like an MTG cardAmong Us will quickly rival Fall Guys for fan creations.

Of course, many of the best things Among Us has created are gameplay moments. The concept is simple and well executed, letting anyone play and enjoy the guessing game it Among Us‘ core. It’s a very simple game on a technical level too, with graphics and mini-games that don’t need to be complex to be fun. While connectivity issues sometimes occur, the game seems to be largely bug free. However, it is not entirely without strange problems.

Visual issues and bugs are rare in Among Us, but when they do happen they are noteworthy. One example befell a streamer not too long ago. There were only three players left, and it was an emergency vote. Said streamer, who goes by Monoddy, was the last imposter. Monoddy managed to swing the vote in his favor, and a crewmate was voted out. However, just as the game was ending, a kill screen appeared and Monoddy died, resulting in a crew win. There have been complaints about cheaters in Among Us, but this doesn’t seem to be the case here. A few things make it see like this was, indeed, a bug.

For starters, judging by the chat going on, this was a game between friends. Monoddy has no qualms about revealing his imposter status after the vote has been decided. It seems unlikely a hacker would be so petty as to cause a kill at the last possible second. The kill itself is also strange. Monoddy is briefly seen in a kill animation, with his character backstabbing itself. Of all the things players should strive to do as an imposter, killing themselves is not recommended, and certainly not like this.

What’s even stranger is that the vote resulted in a crew member being ejected. This should have caused Monoddy to win the game as the last imposter with only one crew member left. However, because the kill happened right before the screen faded out, the crew won. With the devs focusing more on Among Us now, this seems like the sort of bug they should try and address.

Monoddy’s shocked reaction over Discord is understandable, and contrasts hilariously with his friends’ cheering. Of course, he sees the kill screen before any of them, no doubt leading to a lot of confusion. This definitely beats the other imposter game flaw that players have complained about, but how many other players have experienced it is unknown.

Among Us is available for PC and mobile.
