PS5’s DualSense Controller Uses Cool Feature to Differentiate Players

With the release of the PlayStation 5 a little over a month away, many members of the gaming community are eagerly awaiting the chance to try out the console for themselves. While plenty of surface level details regarding the console are readily available to practically anyone, there are smaller features of the PS5 that many gaming enthusiasts may not be privy to. One example is a cool feature of the PS5 DualSense controller.

No matter how much hands-on PS5 gameplay is shown, it doesn’t compare to the average consumer experiencing it for themself. By extensively experiencing the console, it allows the player to discover plenty of little extra details about the system. Though, one such little detail has recently surfaced online regarding a feature of the PS5 DualSense controller that allows players to tell each other apart.

The DualSense controller features a wide variety of different features, such as haptic feedback. Though, one particular quality of life detail the DualSense controller possesses is the ability to differentiate local players apart using different colored lights, not unlike the PS4 controller. The main difference between the two controllers is that the PS4 controller had a large backlight that shown outwards from the controller, whereas the PS5 controller has a lightbar on top of the controller that light up when the controller is turned on.

The PS5 has been teased for the better part of several years now, but it wasn’t until June of this year that the PS5’s design was officially unveiled. Since that time, numerous subsequent details regarding the console and its features have surfaced. Although, no matter how much Sony shows off the console, there’s no way for consumers to guarantee the quality of the console before its launch, without first experiencing the console firsthand.

It will be interesting to see what other features the PS5 controller possesses once the console launches in November. It’s almost surprising that for how much the console has been shown off already, there are still these small little surprises that continue to surface. Though, some changes made to the button layout on the controller have drawn interesting reactions from a multitude of different fans.

Sony recently announced a big change regarding the button layout of the PS5 controller. Moving forward, the X button will be used to confirm and the circle button will be used to go back. For most western players, this button mapping is fairly standard, but for Japanese players, the layout is reversed, with the circle button meaning confirm and X meaning go back. It will be interesting to see how players react to this change when the console officially launches.

The PlayStation 5 is set to launch on November 12th, 2020.
