Now that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has finally confirmed that Minecraft‘s Steve is the second DLC character coming in Fighters Pass Vol. 2, fans are now waiting for the final four DLC characters to be announced. While an official announcement has yet to be made, the latest rumor suggests that the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter is none other than former Mario rival and platforming icon Crash Bandicoot.
As reported by Dexerto, this rumor apparently stems from European magazine Licensing Source Book. Back in 2018, the magazine noted that Activision has a five-year plan for the Crash Bandicoot franchise, which would include a new game (presumably, the recently-released Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time). And apparently, this five year plan also includes bringing Crash Bandicoot to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is said to be happening at some point in 2021.
With four DLC fighters left and Nintendo adding all kinds of third-party characters to Super Smash Bros., it’s certainly within the realm of possibility that Crash Bandicoot could come to the ambitious crossover fighting game. However, fans should keep their expectations in check. There is no solid evidence that Crash Bandicoot is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it’s entirely possible that Nintendo has completely different characters planned for the rest of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 lineup.
Crash Bandicoot isn’t the only character that’s been rumored for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Lately, rumors have been pointing to Overwatch‘s Tracer coming to the game, with some thinking that she was even going to be announced as Fighters Pass Vol. 2’s second character before it was revealed to be Minecraft‘s Steve.
The reveal of Minecraft‘s Steve as a DLC fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate actually seems to lend some added credibility to an old Smash DLC leak. That leak claimed that Dragon Quest‘s Hero and Minecraft‘s Steve would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC fighters, alongside the likes of Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden as well as Doomguy from Doom. With both Dragon Quest‘s Hero and Minecraft‘s Steve now confirmed, it’s possible that particular leak is legitimate, though that remains to be seen.
With four slots left for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, it’s entirely possible that Ryu Hayabusa, Doomguy, Crash, and Tracer are the final DLC characters planned for the game, but again, the lineup could be completely different. Fans should take any supposed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC leaks with a massive grain of salt in the meantime.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
