Destiny 2: Everything You Need to Know About Festival of the Lost

Destiny 2‘s Halloween event, Festival of the Lost, is coming out today at the weekly reset. It will feature a returning activity, unique masks to earn, cosmetics to buy, and updated weapons to chase.

Festival of the Lost usually takes place later in October, shortly after the release of the annual expansion. However, this year it has been pulled back a bit to coincide with Season of Arrivals due to the delay of Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

The event handler will once again be Eva Levante as she’ll set up a decorative stand in the Tower Courtyard. However, this year’s introductory quest will start with The Spider on The Tangled Shore. Completing his quest will grant players a new emblem and enable them to earn Cipher Decoders from any activity completion. This is the event currency, and will be needed to open chests at the end of a Haunted Forest run, the limited-time activity.

Returning Guardians will be familiar with how the Haunted Forest functions, but this time they will be able to open not one but up to five chests at the end of a run. The Haunted Forest is a randomly generated and timed activity, challenging players to clear as many branches as possible before the timer runs out. The more branches cleared means there will be more chests available to open. Players will be able to hold at most 25 Cipher Decoders before they’ll need to start spending them on chests.

Masks are also making a return as there will be new ones to collect as well as old favorites. Eva Levante will provide players with the Masquerader Helmet, which will accept any mask as an ornament. Like last year, players will be able to apply special mask mods to it to make their Haunted Forest runs easier and more enjoyable.

Other available loot includes both of the Festival of the Lost auto rifles, namely, the Horror Story and Braytech Werewolf. These 450 RPM autos can drop from chests at the end of a Haunted Forest run, and have been updated with perks new to Season of Arrivals. Opening enough of these chests will complete three limited-time Triumphs. Once done, players will be able to trade in candy for a mummified Ghost, Sparrow, and Ship. If players collect enough candy they’ll be able to unlock another exclusive emblem from Bungie Rewards.

Eververse will of course have a slew of new cosmetics to buy, including themed universal armor ornaments. The masks available only from Eververse will not be required for any Triumphs or other means of progress. Players will be able to complete Festival of the Lost bounties from Eva to earn additional Bright Dust. Every Eververse item will be available for Bright Dust at least once during the event, except for the Silver-exclusive “One-Inch Punch” finisher.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
