Razer Visa Card Has LED Light, ‘Gamified’ Reward System

Razer is best known for its gaming hardware and accessories, like the DeathAdder mice, its headsets, and its gaming laptops. However, the world-famous video game hardware and technology company is now set to launch its own pre-paid credit card, aptly named the Razer Card.

Razer has partnered with Visa for the Razer Card, and will be offering three different versions. The Virtual Razer Card will allow users to pay using their smartphone, whereas the Standard Razer Card is a black card that looks to mimic the general aesthetic of Razer’s gaming accessories. And finally, the Premium Razer Card really embraces Razer’s aesthetic, adding a green LED light that glows whenever users pay with the card.

Unfortunately for those who are interested in adding the Razer Card to their wallet, it’s currently without a release date. Razer is running a “beta test” of the Razer Card first, which will see participants earn a whopping 10% cashback when purchasing items from Razer itself. Razer Card beta participants will also be in the running to earn up to $2,000 worth of gear from the company. Only 1,337 people will be part of the Razer Card beta test, and it’s restricted to those living in Singapore.

Assuming the Razer Card beta test is success and the company goes forward with a worldwide launch, users can expect the cashback rewards to be toned down. Purchases from Razer will net 5% cashback, whereas consumers will get 1% cashback on general purchases. There will also be a loyalty program that’s “gamified” and accessible through the Razer Pay app. This will allow users to redeem additional rewards by completing transaction-based tasks, though more specific details have yet to be revealed.

The LED-lit Razer Card is certainly one of the more surprising new announcements Razer has made lately, but it’s not even the most bizarre. Razer has also announced a partnership with Mars Wrigley to create Razer RESPAWN chewing gum, which is available now through Razer’s website.

In the meantime, Razer enthusiasts can expect more big announcements from the company later this week. The RazerCon digital event is set to take place on Saturday, October 10, and it’s there where Razer is expected to reveal even more of its upcoming hardware and accessories. Not only that, but RazerCon will also showcase some exclusive preview footage for some upcoming games, including the John Romero-developed turn-based strategy game Empire of Sin as well as the Diablo-like action-RPG Torchlight 3.
