In Call of Duty: Warzone, every second is a matter of life or death. Deciding which gear to drop into the next match with, which gun to take while looting, and which lethal are useful can easily become vital to success. That is part of why balancing is important to the Warzone community as every tweak can have a big impact on the way a match plays out.
One topic that is frequently debated is the way that Warzone functions in regard to lethal equipment. From tactical knives to grenades, the expected result can often surprise fans as balance changes impact the functionality of player’s gear. When this fan tosses a semtex, the result makes them wonder if they were better off not throwing the grenade in the first place.
In the clip posted by Chewbaccas_gran, the player rushes up the stairs when they suddenly hear footsteps following. Turning, they toss a semtex and get a direct stick on the enemy Warzone player. Running for cover, they dodge just in time for the grenade to explode but realize that they only broke the enemy’s armor. This incident has, based on the comments, happened more then once to this player, making them wonder if a Semtex only has the strength for breaking armor.
It would seem natural that getting stuck with a grenade would be an instant down, but EOD does exist in Warzone which gives some minor protection against explosives. Still, some players commented that even with full armor, health, and EOD they have been killed by grenades before. Fans point out that the clip’s target did not have EOD equipped as it would have appeared next to the hit marker that shows broken armor.
The idea that a semtex grenade might not be an instant down is disturbing to some fans. The powerful force of a grenade attached directly to an enemy would, logically, cause immense damage. Yet the game engine may not agree with player logic. Throwing knives, C4, and semtex have appeared in patch notes with varying balances applied to each. It is unknown if these balances would have changed the damage itself, but it could be the cause of this particular case.
Either way, there are certain expectations that fans have after years of playing Call of Duty. Knives have been a one-hit down for years, grenades always kill when stuck, and headshots do extra damage. While headshots and knives seem to be staying the same, fans now have added concerns that grenades may be more of a gamble then expected.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
